Background/aims: Chemical burns to the eye cause extensive ocular surface damage, often resulting in permanent visual impairment. The amniotic membrane (AM), with its regenerative properties, has shown great potential in treating such injuries. Recent innovations, including hydrogel-based delivery systems, have been developed to improve drug retention and promote corneal healing.

While transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is an effective treatment, its impact on symptoms remains underexplored. This ancillary study investigated home-use tDCS effects on depression symptom clusters.

First, embryos produced under these three treatments were evaluated for production, quality, lipid content, gene expression, and methylation patterns. The results indicated that all parameters analyzed were similar across all treatments (P > 0.

Holstein calves (n = 48/season) were enrolled at 7 d of age (DOA) from June to Aug (defined as summer, BW = 40 ± 4 kg) and from Nov to Jan (defined as winter, BW = 42 ± 4 kg). Similar general management and feeding practices were applied to calves in both seasons.

Objectives: To evaluate whether a spirituality-based intervention, compared to a control group, can reduce blood pressure (BP) and improve endothelial function after 12 weeks in patients with mild or moderate hypertension (HTN).
The aim of this study was to verify the correlation of self-reported sleep and awake bruxism with demographic characteristics, oral behaviors, anxiety, temporomandibular disorder (TMD) signs and symptoms, sleep quality, and orthodontic treatment history in dental students. A total of 104 students of Dentistry located in Paraná (South Brazilian State) answered the following self-administered questionnaires: Oral Behavior Checklist, State Anxiety Inventory, TMD signs and symptoms questionnaire, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Associations between possible awake bruxism (AB) and sleep bruxism (SB) with sleep quality, anxiety, and TMD were analyzed by Poisson Regression with robust variance.

Although GFkV has been studied for a long time, limited sequence information is available in the public databases. In this study, the GFkV sequence data available in GenBank and data generated at the Foundation Plant Services, University of California, Davis, were used to perform nucleotide sequence comparisons, construct a phylogenetic tree, and develop a new RT-qPCR assay.

Objectives: Here we present the characterisation of a novel HIV-1 recombinant form, indicating a new Brazilian CRF_BC, named CRF146_BC.
Methods: RDP, JphMM and Simplot recombination tools were used to evaluate the mosaic pattern.
Objective: to analyze the meaning attributed by parents to the extended and permanent survival of childhood cancer.
Method: qualitative narrative inquiry, developed with parents of adolescents and young adults who survived childhood cancer. Recruitment and data collection involved virtual and in-person approaches.
Objective: To evaluate the indications for and results of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations for breast cancer screening at a cancer center in Brazil.
Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective observational study, based on electronic medical records, of patients undergoing MRI for breast cancer screening at a cancer center in Brazil.
Results: We included 597 patients between 19 and 82 years of age.

Objective: To cross-culturally adapt the Pediatric Asthma Therapy Assessment Questionnaire (ATAQ) into Brazilian Portuguese and analyze its measurement properties.
Methods: This exploratory methodological study included eight experts and 30 caregivers in the translation and cross-cultural adaptation steps. Thereafter, 118 caregivers of pediatric patients with asthma aged between 5 and 17 years were involved in the analysis of measurement properties.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that there were 247 million malaria cases in 2021 worldwide, representing an increase in 2 million cases compared to 2020. The urgent need for the development of new antimalarials is underscored by specific criteria, including the requirement of new modes of action that avoid cross-drug resistance, the ability to provide single-dose cures, and efficacy against both assexual and sexual blood stages. Motivated by the promising results obtained from our research group with [1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine and pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine derivatives, we selected these molecular scaffolds as the foundation for designing two new series of piperaquine analogs as potential antimalarial candidates.

Objective: To determine whether fully unsupervised home-use tDCS, combined with a digital psychological intervention or digital placebo, is effective for a major depressive episode.
Background: Endothelial dysfunction and peak oxygen uptake (VO) are also predictors of increased risk of cardiovascular events in heart transplantation (HTx) recipients. The preservation of endothelial function may contribute to exercise tolerance.
Objective: To investigate the correlation between peripheral endothelial function and exercise tolerance through VO and ventilation to carbon dioxide production slope (VE / VCO) in HTx recipients.
Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of a convolutional neural network (CNN) in detecting healthy teeth and early carious lesions on occlusal surfaces and to assess the applicability of this deep learning algorithm as an auxiliary aid.
Materials And Methods: A total of 2,481 posterior teeth (2,459 permanent and 22 deciduous teeth) with varying stages of carious lesions were classified according to the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS). After clinical evaluation, ICDAS 0 and 2 occlusal surfaces were photographed with a professional digital camera.
Unlabelled: Individuals seeking orthodontic treatment combined with orthognathic surgery (OS) have a high prevalence of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs), but the relationship between TMD diagnoses and dentofacial deformities (DFDs) is still controversial. Therefore, this cross-sectional study with a comparison group aimed to analyze the association between dentofacial deformities and TMDs.
Methodology: Eighty patients undergoing OS were consecutively selected from the stomatology department of the Federal University of Paraná between July 2021 and July 2022.
The aim of this work was to develop a dense lamellar scaffold, as a biomimetic material with potential applications in the regeneration of tracheal tissue after surgical tumor resection. The scaffolds were produced by plastic compression technique, exploiting the use of total phenolic compounds (TPC) from Psidium guajava Linn as a potential cross-linking agent in a polymeric mixture based on collagen (COL), silk fibroin (SF), and polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG 400). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) confirmed the chemical interactions between the polymers and the cross-linking of TPC between COL and SF.

Furthermore, the drugs currently in use exhibit high toxicity and side effects. The scarcity of efficient treatments for fungal and parasitic diseases has motivated the search for new drug candidates, including antimicrobial peptides.
