Anorectal Testing for Mpox Virus Infection in Men Who Have Sex With Men With and Without Proctitis.

We performed anorectal testing in 18 cis-gender men who have sex with men with symptoms consistent with mpox virus (MPXV) infection. We found rectal MPXV DNA in 9/9 with and 7/9 without proctitis. Future study of anorectal testing is needed and may inform the diagnosis and pathogenesis of MPXV disease.

Epidemiological characteristics of asymptomatic infections in the Peruvian Amazon.

Introduction: Herein, we tested the hypothesis that Asymptomatic (Pv) infected individuals (Asym) feature different epidemiological, clinical and biochemical characteristics, as well as hematological parameters, potentially predictive of clinical immunity in comparison to symptomatic Pv infected individuals (Sym).

Methodology: Between 2018 - 2021, we conducted 11 population screenings (PS, Day 0 (D0)) in 13 different riverine communities around Iquitos city, in the Peruvian Amazon, to identify Pv Sym and Asym individuals. A group of these individuals agreed to participate in a nested case - control study to evaluate biochemical and hematological parameters.

Applying implementation science frameworks to identify factors that influence the intention of healthcare providers to offer PrEP care and advocate for PrEP in HIV clinics in Colombia: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Few studies have used implementation science frameworks to identify determinants of PrEP prescription by healthcare providers. In this work, we developed and psychometrically examined a questionnaire using the theoretical domains framework (TDF) and the consolidated framework for implementation research (CFIR). We used this questionnaire to investigate what factors influence the intention of healthcare providers to offer PrEP care and advocate for PrEP.

Pulque is a culturally important 4,000-year-old traditional Mexican fermented drink. Pulque is produced by adding fresh aguamiel (agave sap) to mature pulque, resulting in a mixture of microbial communities and chemical compositions. We performed shotgun metagenomic sequencing of five stages of pulque fermentation to characterize organismal and functional diversity.

Parental and God Representations Among Individuals with Psychosis: A Grounded Theory Analysis.

Religiousness, spirituality, and social support have all been identified as having a positive impact on overall mental health outcomes. The current study describes quantitative and qualitative assessment of parental and God representations among individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder (N = 46). Six salient themes emerged; participants described the importance of caregiver love and nurturance, need for God, loss of family members, love of God, concrete support provided by parents, and the ability to tolerate ambivalent feelings toward parents.

We report a case of human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I)-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP), in a 59 year-old, living-donor, renal transplant recipient from Jamaica. The patient's renal transplant had been performed 11 years ago, and her organ donor was also from Jamaica. Pretransplant HTLV-I serologic status for both the donor and recipient was unknown.

Pedro Valdés spent his childhood in Chicago, Illinois, USA, where he says his love of science began. After his family returned to Cuba in 1961, he studied medicine, received his PhD in biological sciences, and in 1990 at the age of 40, founded the Cuban Neuroscience Center with a group of young scientists that included his brother Mitchell, now the Center's Director. Current concepts in antibiotic-resistant gram-negative bacteria.

Gram-negative bacteria are the dominant killers among bacterial pathogens in the intensive care unit.
