Strengths use, the engagement of positive character traits in everyday contexts, is associated with both positive functioning and symptom reduction. The present study examined longitudinal relationships between strengths use and emotional disorder symptoms (anxiety, stress, and depression) during a randomized clinical trial of the Digital Unified Protocol, a transdiagnostic cognitive behavioral therapy. Participants (N = 120) completed assessments at four major time points during treatment and at 3-month follow-up.

Before the development of the Unified Protocol for the Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders (UP), evidence-based treatment options for commonly co-occurring anxiety, mood, and related disorders consisted of numerous single-disorder protocols that shared many similarities, reflecting the overlap among these disorders themselves. The UP distilled common elements of cognitive behavioral protocols into a unified intervention directly targeting core temperamental features underlying these disorders of emotion, namely neuroticism and associated emotion dysregulation. The UP has since become a leading "transdiagnostic" treatment for emotional disorders, which is now available in several formats (e.

α-Synuclein (α-syn) accumulates as insoluble amyloid but also forms soluble α-syn oligomers (αSOs), thought to be even more cytotoxic than fibrils. To detect and block the unwanted activities of these αSOs, we have raised 30 monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against different forms of αSOs, ranging from unmodified αSOs to species stabilized by lipid peroxidation products and polyphenols, αSOs formed by C-terminally truncated α-syn, and multivalent display of α-syn on capsid virus-like particles (cVLPs). While the mAbs generally show a preference for αSOs, they also bind fibrils, but to variable extents.

Importance: A transdiagnostic treatment, the Unified Protocol, is as effective as single diagnostic protocols in comorbid emotional disorders in clinical populations. However, its effects on posttraumatic stress disorder and other emotional disorders in individuals living in war and armed conflict contexts have not been studied.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of a cultural and contextual adaptation of the Unified Protocol (CXA-UP) on posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and depression compared to waitlist control in individuals exposed to armed conflict in Colombia.

Nanopores are label-free single-molecule analytical tools that show great potential for stochastic sensing of proteins. Here, we described a ClyA nanopore functionalized with different nanobodies through a 5-6 nm DNA linker at its periphery. Ty1, 2Rs15d, 2Rb17c, and nb22 nanobodies were employed to specifically recognize the large protein SARS-CoV-2 Spike, a medium-sized HER2 receptor, and the small protein murine urokinase-type plasminogen activator (muPA), respectively.

Purpose: To evaluate percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) safety and efficacy in patients with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (PCCA).

Methods: This retrospective observational study included patients with PCCA and obstructive cholestasis referred for a PTBD in our institution between 2010 and 2020. Technical and clinical success rates and major complication and mortality rates one month after PTBD were used as main variables.

Multi-segmented cylindrical nanowires have properties that make them attractive for high-density, high-speed logic and memory applications. Investigations of the current-induced domain wall motion in cylindrical nanowires have, so far, typically been conducted with a background magnetic field. However, if performed at zero external field, they would be much more viable for their use in prospective electronic devices.

Cylindrical magnetic nanowires are promising materials that have the potential to be used in a wide range of applications. The versatility of these nanostructures is based on the tunability of their magnetic properties, which is achieved by appropriately selecting their composition and morphology. In addition, stochastic behavior has attracted attention in the development of neuromorphic devices relying on probabilistic magnetization switching.

Considering that there are many alternatives in the literature for composing groups in collaborative learning contexts, we present a proposal that exhibits several features. First, and from the operational point of view, our proposal is highly flexible because i) it allows for several group sizes and an arbitrary array of grouping attributes, and ii) it may be easily adapted to consider several homogeneity/heterogeneity criteria. Second, and from the algorithmic point of view, it combines the best of two apparently opposite worlds: it uses a local brute-force search within an iterative process guided by a randomized heuristic criterion.

Acute generalised exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is an unusual cutaneous reaction, most often related with a hypersensitivity reaction to commonly used drugs. It is characterized by an abrupt onset of a pustular rash within hours or days after drug exposure and usually resolves spontaneously within 1-2 weeks after drug discontinuation. Some cases associated with systemic involvement and shock have been reported.

Introduction: Infection with the new SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus is a worldwide public health emergency; its diagnosis is based on molecular tests, while its prognosis depends on the patient’s history and on some paraclinical tests. In Colombia, forecasts are not yet counted. Objective: To assess the factors associated with the development of severe disease in hospitalized patients diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection, as well as the prognostic factors for the outcome of mortality.

Background: Identifying the precise location of cells and their migration dynamics is of utmost importance for achieving the therapeutic potential of cells after implantation into a host. Magnetic resonance imaging is a suitable, non-invasive technique for cell monitoring when used in combination with contrast agents.

Results: This work shows that nanowires with an iron core and an iron oxide shell are excellent materials for this application, due to their customizable magnetic properties and biocompatibility.

Combining different therapies into a single nanomaterial platform is a promising approach for achieving more efficient, less invasive, and personalized treatments. Here, we report on the development of such a platform by utilizing nanowires with an iron core and iron oxide shell as drug carriers and exploiting their optical and magnetic properties. The iron core has a large magnetization, which provides the foundation for low-power magnetic manipulation and magnetomechanical treatment.

Magnetic nanowires possess unique properties that have attracted the interest of different fields of research, including basic physics, biomedicine, and data storage. We demonstrate a fabrication method for iron (Fe) nanowires via electrochemical deposition into anodic alumina oxide (AAO) templates. The templates are fabricated by anodization of aluminum (Al) discs, and the pore length and diameter are controlled by changing the anodizing conditions.

Metals are persistent pollutants, able to accumulate in the biota and magnify in trophic web. In the specific case of cadmium contamination, it has been the subject of considerable interest in recent years because of its biological effects and it is one of major pollutant in estuarine areas. Ucides cordatus is considered a mangrove local sentinel crab species in Brazil and there are previous studies reporting crab subpopulations living from pristine to heavily metal impacted areas in São Paulo coast (Southeastern Brazil).

Juvenile polyposis syndrome (JPS) is an infrequent autosomal dominant hereditary predisposition to the occurrence of hamartomatous polyps in the colon and rectum. We describe the case of a 12-year-old boy with JPS associated with an abdominal tumor. Histological sections of the abdominal tumor showed components of adenocarcinoma, osteosarcoma, and choriocarcinoma.

Macroalgae species Codium sp, Bangia atropurpurea, Membranoptera alata, Plocamium cartilagineum, Dictyota dichotoma, Fucus spiralis and Stypocaulon scoparia were collected from seven stations along the north coast of Morocco. Samples were analysed to determine activities of naturally occurring radionuclides ((210)Pb, U isotopes and (40)K) and concentrations of metals (Zn, Fe, Co, Cu, Ni, Mn, Pb, Cd, As and Cr) using radiometric and ICP-OES techniques, respectively. Metal concentrations were within ranges reported in the scientific literature, and concentrations of bio-essential elements were in the order Mn>Fe> Zn>Cu in all samples.
