Case report: Primary cytomegalovirus infection in a patient with late onset multiple sclerosis treated with dimethyl fumarate.

Background: Treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) with delayed-release dimethyl fumarate (DMF) has shown efficacy and safety in clinical trials. However, the occurrence of infectious complications, particularly in elderly patients, remains a concern.

Methods: We present the case of a 63-year-old woman with late-onset MS treated with DMF, who developed a severe primary cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection.

Background: Therapeutic drug monitoring for mycophenolic acid (MPA) is challenging due to difficulties in measuring the area under the curve (AUC). Limited sampling strategies (LSSs) have been developed for MPA therapeutic drug monitoring but come with risk of unacceptable performance. The authors hypothesized that the poor predictive performance of LSSs were due to the variability in MPA enterohepatic recirculation (EHR).

Background: Egg allergy is common and caused by sensitization to ovomucoid and/or ovalbumin. Many egg-allergic patients are able to tolerate eggs baked into other foods, such as muffins. Although heating egg extensively reduces allergens, the effect of other food ingredients on allergenicity of eggs, or the "matrix effect," is less well studied.

Background: Nomograms were established to predict biochemical recurrence (BCR) after radiotherapy (RT) with a low weight of the characteristic variables of RT and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). Our aim is to provide a new stratified tool for predicting BCR at 4 and 7 years in patients treated using RT with radical intent.

Maternal presence and environmental enrichment affect food neophobia of piglets.

Young omnivores show food neophobia in order to avoid the potential harmful effects of ingesting unfamiliar food items. We investigated whether the presence of the mother and an enriched rearing environment would reduce food neophobia in piglets. A mother may provide information on suitable food types to include in the diet, whereas an enriched environment may stimulate behavioural development and reduce reactivity towards novel stimuli (including food).

The precise etiology of neural tube defects (NTDs) is not known. There is some evidence that mutations in MTHFR gene provide susceptibility to NTDs in some populations; however, other studies have not found this association. One of the problems with previous studies is that they treat NTDs as a homogeneous group, when specific defects could have different etiologies.
