The application of personalized medicine in patients with first-episode psychosis (FEP) requires tools for classifying patients according to their response to treatment, considering both treatment efficacy and toxicity. However, several limitations have hindered its translation into clinical practice. Here, we describe the rationale, aims and methodology of (the FarmaPRED-PEP project), which aims to develop and validate predictive algorithms to classify FEP patients according to their response to antipsychotics, thereby allowing the most appropriate treatment strategy to be selected.

The electrochemical study through cyclic voltammetry of these open layer species shows the existence of two reversible processes, related to reduction and oxidation, to stable charged species. The chemical oxidation of both radical adducts gives rise to stable cations, whose fundamental state has a biradical triplet electronic structure or a closed shell singlet character, depending on the electronic conjugation between the donor and acceptor electron moieties.

Objective: To assess the outcome of adolescents with anorexia nervosa (AN) about 20 years after first treatment.
Methods: Sixty-two women diagnosed with AN during adolescence were invited to participate. Of these 62 patients, 38 agreed to participate and were assessed with a battery of questionnaires and interviews.
Purpose: To evaluate, through the in vivo confocal microscopy, the pathological changes of each corneal layer in eyes affected by pseudoexfoliation syndrome.
Methods: We studied 40 eyes of 40 patients with diagnosis of unilateral senile cataract associated with pseudoexfoliation syndrome and 40 eyes of 40 control subjects with senile cataract without pseudoexfoliation syndrome. All patients underwent a complete ophthalmic examination including best corrected visual acuity, slit-lamp examination, corneal sensitivity measurement using a Cochet-Bonnet nylon thread esthesiometer, and anterior segment optical coherence tomography (Visante OCT, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Germany); in vivo confocal microscopy of corneal sections (endothelium, stroma, sub-basal nerve plexus, and superficial and basal epithelium) was performed with the ConfoScan 4.
The transmission of hospital-acquired Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) is a serious and growing concern in hospitals worldwide. Previous research of CRE found that traditional patient-to-patient transmission of the bacteria does not fully account for all cases of transmission. Recent efforts to further understand modes of transmission found identical genomes of CRE in patient sinks as was found in cultures collected from patients, indicating that environmental reservoirs could be playing a larger role in transmission than was first realized.

Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis of neutral and acidic solutions of 2,5-dimethyl-1-phenylpyrrol (1) and meta-, para-, and ortho-bis(2,5-dimethylpyrrol-1-yl)benzenes (4-6) in the presence of Tl(III) trifluoroacetate as oxidant reveals the poor stability of their generated monomeric radical cations which dimerize through C(β)-C(β) bond formation. EPR spectra of the monomeric radical cations 4(•+) , 5(•+) , and 6(•+) coincide with that of 1(•+) , suggesting that the unpaired electron in these charged species is confined in one of the pyrrolic rings. The very twisted angles between pyrrolic and phenyl planes due to steric hindrance in the X-ray analysis of the molecular structure of 4 confirm the absence of extended conjugation in the π-system.

The synthesis, characterization, and nonlinear optical properties of these frozen tautomers, namely, N-methyl-N-(2-nitroacridin-6-yl)-2-aminobenzothia-zole and 3-methyl-N-(7-nitroacridin-3-yl)-2-iminobenzothiazole, are reported.
