Early excision and autografting have been the principles in managing acute burn wounds. Despite the known benefits of early autografting, there are situations in which the placement of autograft is unsafe or even unavailable. In these clinical situations, skin substitutes like artificial dressings and human skin allografts are considered as useful for temporary wound coverage.
