Introduction: There is a lack of evidence to support the effectiveness of prolonged β-blocker therapy after stabilisation of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) without heart failure (HF) or left ventricular systolic dysfunction.

Methods And Analysis: The SMart Angioplasty Research Team: DEcision on Medical Therapy in Patients with Coronary Artery DIsease or Structural Heart Disease Undergoing InterventiON (SMART-DECISION) trial is a multicentre, prospective, open-label, randomised, non-inferiority trial designed to determine whether discontinuing β-blocker therapy after ≥1 year of maintenance in stabilised patients after AMI is non-inferior to continuing it. Patients eligible for participation are those without HF or left ventricular systolic dysfunction (ejection fraction >40%) who have been continuing β-blocker therapy for ≥1 year after AMI.

Physical vapor deposition is a favorable technique for fabricating light-emitting diodes (LEDs) due to its scalability and reproducibility. However, the performances of LEDs fabricated via this method are worse than those prepared via solution processing owing to the generation of high defect densities. In this study, we introduce a layer of tetraoctylammonium bromide (TOABr), an interfacial-modification compound containing four long octyl chains that are symmetrically arranged around an N atom, to reduce nonradiative recombination and trap densities in CsPbBr.

Perovskite stannate SrSnO (SSO) is attracting attention as ultraviolet transparent conducting oxides (UV TCOs) due to its ultrawide band gap and high conductivity. Here, we investigate in detail the thickness-dependent electrical, structural, and optical properties of sequentially strain-relaxed La-doped SrSnO (SLSO) epitaxial thin films. We find that the SLSO films grow as an orthorhombic phase with in the direction under the tensile strain.

Scaling down of semiconductor devices requires high- dielectric materials to continue lowering the operating voltage of field-effect transistors (FETs) and storing sufficient charge on a smaller area. Here, we investigate the dielectric properties of epitaxial BaHfTiO (BHTO), an alloy of perovskite oxide barium hafnate (BaHfO) and barium titanate (BaTiO). We found the dielectric constant, the breakdown field, and the leakage current to be 150, 5.

Purpose: Dyslipidemia is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Statins are known to effectively reduce not only low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) level but also death and nonfatal myocardial infarction due to coronary heart disease. The risk for CVD from atherogenic dyslipidemia persists when elevated triglyceride (TG) and reduced high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels are not controlled with statin therapy.

Antihypertensive drugs are one of the most widely used pharmacologic agent in the world and it is predominantly used in the elderly subjects. Pneumonia is the most common cause of death in the extremely old subject. During infection and its complication such as sepsis, hypotension could be exacerbated by antihypertensive drugs because homeostasis mechanisms such as sodium balance, renin angiotensin aldosterone system and/or sympathetic nervous system can be mitigated by antihypertensive drug therapy.

PdxB (erythronate 4-phosphate dehydrogenase) is expected to be required for synthesis of the essential cofactor pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP) in Surprisingly, incubation of the ∆ strain in medium containing glucose as a sole carbon source for 10 d resulted in visible turbidity, suggesting that PLP is being produced by some alternative pathway. Continued evolution of parallel lineages for 110 to 150 generations produced several strains that grow robustly in glucose. We identified a 4-step bypass pathway patched together from promiscuous enzymes that restores PLP synthesis in strain JK1.
