Background And Aim: The Kurdish Region of Iraq (KRI) is home to Kurds, internally displaced persons, and Syrian refugees. In the last decades, its inhabitants have witnessed a great deal of political instability, which has led to increased rates of psychological distress. Mental illness contrasts with limited access to and availability of mental health services - and so the treatment gap remains high.

The growing number of refugees arriving in Germany in 2015 increased the need for support and care in psychosocial matters, on the part of both, refugees and volunteers. The research project investigated the relationship between refugee women and female volunteers, who were not necessarily familiar with each other, through 32 guided interviews (16 with Arab & Farsi speaking women, 16 women with female volunteers). The results reveal a relevant uncertainty surrounding the definition of "volunteering" on both sides as well as misunderstandings and imbalances in their interaction.

The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions of both the Jordanian host and refugee community members from the psychotherapeutic services offered at various mental health care settings in Jordan. Eighty mothers who lost a young adult daughter stemming from a crowd stampede incident during the annual water festival were interviewed at the six-month post-loss point along with a control group of similarly aged women who were not recently bereaved. Both groups were assessed for PG, PTSD, anxiety, and depression symptoms and well as for the number of distal losses experienced during the Khmer Rouge (KR) regime - knowing that all the women were old enough to have lived through the KR regime.
