Here, we show that CD40L transduction of DCs results in the induction of interleukin-12p40 (IL-12p40), IL-12p70, and IL-23. Methods: Control mice and mice depleted of CD4+ lymphocytes were inoculated with Pneumocystis.
During bacterial infection, the bone marrow hematopoietic activity shifts toward granulocyte production, which is critical for host defenses. Along with this enhancement of granulopoiesis, the bone marrow also increases its release of hematopoietic precursors. At the present time, little is known about the commitment of hematopoietic precursor cells, including hematopoietic stem cells and progenitors, in this response.
