Background And Aims: Moyamoya is a chronic brain vasculopathy involving the distal intracranial internal carotid artery (ICA) or proximal middle cerebral artery (MCA). Moyamoya patients can be divided into those with primary moyamoya disease (MMD) and those with moyamoya secondary to other known causes such as intracranial atherosclerosis (moymoya syndrome [MMS]). Study Design: Prospective, controlled, crossover study. Preterm infants on NIPPV were monitored by tcCO during two rate changes switching every hour between high (30 bpm) and low (10 bpm) set rates.
Aim: We examined community and hospital-acquired bacteraemia, namely bloodstream infections or meningitis, and looked at the clinical features and outcomes of cases.
Methods: The study comprised infants under 3 months of age, who were admitted to a tertiary referral centre in northern Israel with bacteraemia from 2010-2019. Causative pathogens, antibiotic susceptibility and mortality were retrospectively recorded.

Methods: A prospective, randomized, pilot study examining the use of an audio-voice application for guiding resuscitation on newborn mannequins, based on the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) algorithm. Two different scenarios, with and without voice guidance, were presented to 20 medical personnel (2 midwives, 8 nurses, and 10 physicians) in random order, and their performance videotaped.
Importance: Use of cannulas with long and narrow tubing (CLNT) has gained increasing popularity for applying noninvasive respiratory support for newborn infants thanks to ease of use, perceived patient comfort, and reduced nasal trauma. However, there is concern that this interface delivers reduced and suboptimal support.
Objective: To determine whether CLNT is noninferior to short binasal prongs and masks (SPM) when providing nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) in preterm infants.
Ventilatory support may affect the short- and long-term neurologic and respiratory morbidities of preterm infants. Ongoing monitoring of oxygenation and ventilation and control of adequate levels of oxygen, pressures, and volumes can decrease the incidence of such adverse outcomes. Use of pulse oximetry became a standard of care for titrating oxygen delivery, but continuous noninvasive monitoring of carbon dioxide (CO) is not routinely used in NICUs.

Study Design: This is a single-center, double-blind, randomized controlled pilot study. Infants were assigned for treatment with either intravenous ibuprofen + paracetamol ( = 12) or ibuprofen + placebo ( = 12).
Alcohol consumption during pregnancy induces Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), which has been proposed to arise from competitive inhibition of retinoic acid (RA) biosynthesis. We provide biochemical and developmental evidence identifying acetaldehyde as responsible for this inhibition. In the embryo, RA production by RALDH2 (ALDH1A2), the main retinaldehyde dehydrogenase expressed at that stage, is inhibited by ethanol exposure.
