In the last two decades, several working groups in the international psychoanalytic community have been interested in the development of systematic tools for psychodynamic diagnosis, case formulation and treatment planning. Such psychodynamic diagnostic manuals are efforts to systematically integrate an enormous and rich amount of historically partialized and dispersed information, but which constitute the substantial contribution of psychoanalysis to the field of mental health. The aim of the present article is to provide an updated review on this kind of systematic tools for diagnosis, case formulation and therapeutic planning, designed for the field of psychodynamic approaches.

Next-generation sequencing offers highly multiplexed and accurate detection of nucleic acid sequences but at the expense of complex workflows and high input requirements. The ease of use of CRISPR-Cas12 assays is attractive and may enable highly accurate detection of sequences implicated in, for example, cancer pathogenic variants. CRISPR assays often employ end-point measurements of Cas12 trans-cleavage activity after Cas12 activation by the target; however, end point-based methods can be limited in accuracy and robustness by arbitrary experimental choices.

We present the development and demonstration of a neural network (NN) model for fast and accurate prediction of whether or not a chosen analyte is focused by an isotachophoresis (ITP) buffer system. The NN model is useful in the rapid evaluation of possible ITP chemistries applicable to analytes of interest. We trained and tested the NN model for univalent species based on extensive data sets of over 10,000 anionic and 10,000 cationic ITP simulations.

Unlabelled: This is the second report (part 2) of an investigation whose general objective was to provide evidence regarding the trustworthiness of the Three-Level Model (3-LM). Three groups of analysts from different IPA regions worked with this model on the same clinical case.

The specificity of CRISPR-Cas12 assays is attractive for the detection of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) implicated in, , cancer and SARS-CoV-2 variants. Such assays often employ endpoint measurements of SNP or wild type (WT) activated Cas12 -cleavage activity; however, the fundamental kinetic effects of SNP versus WT activation remain unknown. We here show that endpoint-based assays are limited by arbitrary experimental choices (like used reporter concentration and assay duration) and work best for known target concentrations.

Chemical reactions and biological processes are frequently governed by the structure and dynamics of the interface between two liquid phases, but these interfaces are often difficult to study due to the relative abundance of the bulk liquids. Here, we demonstrate a method for generating multilayer thin film stacks of liquids, which we call liquid heterostructures. These free-flowing layered liquid sheets are produced with a microfluidic nozzle that impinges two converging jets of one liquid onto opposite sides of a third jet of another liquid.

The high-efficiency separation and extraction of short fragments of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) remain challenging due to their low abundance and short lengths. This study presents a method for separating short cfDNA fragments, with lengths ranging from about 100 to 200 base pairs, from liquid human plasma samples into separable and extractable bands as solid agarose gel slabs. To achieve this, a novel millimeter-scale fluidic device is used for sample handling, transient isotachophoresis, and extraction.

We present the development of a client-side web-based simulator for complex electrophoresis phenomena, including isotachophoresis. We present a model for second-order and pseudo-first-order reversible chemical reactions accelerated using peak-mode isotachophoresis (ITP). In such systems, ITP preconcentrates and co-locates the reactants between the leading and trailing electrolyte zones, and this significantly accelerates chemical reactions. Our model quantifies the effects of reaction rate constants and species abundance on product formation rate.

Chronic ultraviolet B (UV-B) irradiation is known to be one of the most important hazards acting on the skin and poses a risk of developing photoaging, skin with cutaneous field cancerization (CFC), actinic keratosis (AKs), and squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs). Most of the UV-B light is absorbed in the epidermis, affecting the outermost cell layers, the stratum corneum, and the stratum granulosum, which protects against this radiation and tries to maintain the permeability barrier. In the present work, we show an impairment in the transepidermal water loss, stratum corneum hydration, and surface pH after chronic UV-B light exposure in an immunologically intact mouse model (SKH1 aged mice) of skin with CFC.
