Background: The use of new psychoactive substances (NPS) has emerged as a significant public health concern globally, due to their unknown and unpredictable effects on both physical and mental health. Among them, synthetic cannabinoids receptor agonists (SCRAs) currently stand as the most widely consumed NPS family in Europe. Since the detection of JWH-018 in 2008, the structures of these compounds have evolved to circumvent legislation and/or enhance their effects, consequently increasing the number of reported SCRAs to be monitored.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy is approved for the treatment of relapsed/refractory (R/R) large B cell lymphoma (LBCL). However, elderly patients might not be candidates for this therapy due to its toxicity, and criteria for candidate selection are lacking. Our aim was to analyze efficacy and toxicity results of CAR-T cell therapy in the population of patients 70 years and older as compared to those obtained in younger patients in the real-world setting.

The popularity of plant-based meat alternatives (PBMAs) has sparked a contentious debate about their influence on intestinal homeostasis compared to traditional animal-based meats. This study aims to explore the changes in gut microbial metabolites (GMMs) induced by the gut microbiota on different digested patties: beef meat and pea-protein PBMA. After digesting in vitro, untargeted metabolomics revealed 32 annotated metabolites, such as carnitine and acylcarnitines correlated with beef meat, and 45 annotated metabolites, like triterpenoids and lignans, linked to our PBMA.

In the pre-chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T) therapy era, the SCHOLAR-1 study identified a group of patients with refractory aggressive B cell lymphoma (ABCL) with particularly poor prognoses. We recently published our real-world data from Spain, focused on this SCHOLAR-1 refractory group, and compared patients who underwent CAR-T therapy with the previous standard of care. In this study, we found that the efficacy of CAR-T therapy in refractory patients, in terms of progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS), was superior to that of the treatments available in the pre-CAR-T era.

This study aims at the application of a marine fungal consortium (Aspergillus sclerotiorum CRM 348 and Cryptococcus laurentii CRM 707) for the bioremediation of diesel oil-contaminated soil under microcosm conditions. The impact of biostimulation (BS) and/or bioaugmentation (BA) treatments on diesel-oil biodegradation, soil quality, and the structure of the microbial community were studied. The use of the fungal consortium together with nutrients (BA/BS) resulted in a TPH (Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon) degradation 42% higher than that obtained by natural attenuation (NA) within 120 days.

Adipose tissue from pheochromocytoma patients acquires brown fat features, making it a valuable model for studying the mechanisms that control thermogenic adipose plasticity in humans. Transcriptomic analyses revealed a massive downregulation of splicing machinery components and splicing regulatory factors in browned adipose tissue from patients, with upregulation of a few genes encoding RNA-binding proteins potentially involved in splicing regulation. These changes were also observed in cell culture models of human brown adipocyte differentiation, confirming a potential involvement of splicing in the cell-autonomous control of adipose browning.

In this work, the collision cross section (CCS) value of 103 steroids (including unconjugated metabolites and phase II metabolites conjugated with sulfate and glucuronide groups) was determined by liquid chromatography coupled to traveling wave ion mobility spectrometry (LC-TWIMS). A time of flight (QTOF) mass analyzer was used to perform the analytes determination at high-resolution mass spectrometry. An electrospray ionization source (ESI) was used to generate [M+H], [M + NH] and/or [M - H] ions.

Untargeted metabolomics with the combination of ion mobility separation coupled to high resolution mass spectrometry (IMS-HRMS) was applied to investigate the impact of resveratrol and pterostilbene supplementation on the metabolic fingerprint of the Wistar rats liver with induced liver steatosis. RP-LC and HILIC in both ionisation modes were employed to analyse the liver samples (n = 40) from Wistar rats fed with a high-fat and high-fructose diet, supplemented or not with resveratrol and pterostilbene. After univariate and multivariate statistical analysis, 34 metabolites were highlighted in the different diets and elucidated.

The present study is focused on the determination of low-volatile chemosignals excreted or secreted by mouse pups in their early days of life involved in maternal care induction in mice adult females. Untargeted metabolomics was employed to differentiate between samples collected with swabs from facial and anogenital area from neonatal mouse pups receiving maternal care (first two weeks of life) and the elder mouse pups in the weaning period (4th week old). The sample extracts were analysed by ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography (UHPLC) coupled to ion mobility separation (IMS) in combination with high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS).

Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to ion mobility separation and high-resolution mass spectrometry instruments have proven very valuable for screening of emerging contaminants in the aquatic environment. However, when applying suspect or nontarget approaches (, when no reference standards are available), there is no information on retention time (RT) and collision cross-section (CCS) values to facilitate identification. In silico prediction tools of RT and CCS can therefore be of great utility to decrease the number of candidates to investigate.

Identification of bioaccumulating contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) via suspect and non-target screening remains a challenging task. In this study, ion mobility separation with high-resolution mass spectrometry (IM-HRMS) was used to investigate the effects of drift time (DT) alignment on spectrum quality and peak annotation for screening of CECs in complex sample matrices using data independent acquisition (DIA). Data treatment approaches (Binary Sample Comparison) and prioritisation strategies (Halogen Match, co-occurrence of features in biota and the water phase) were explored in a case study on zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha) in Lake Mälaren, Sweden's largest drinking water reservoir.

The number of open access databases containing experimental and predicted collision cross section (CCS) values is rising and leads to their increased use for compound identification. However, the reproducibility of reference values with different instrumental designs and the comparison between predicted and experimental CCS values is still under evaluation. This study compared experimental CCS values of 56 small molecules (Contaminants of Emerging Concern) acquired by both drift tube (DT) and travelling wave (TW) ion mobility mass spectrometry (IM-MS).

The performance of gas chromatography (GC) combined with the improved identification properties of ion mobility separation coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry (IMS-HRMS) is presented as a promising approach for the monitoring of (semi)volatile compounds in complex matrices. The soft ionization promoted by an atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) source designed for GC preserves the molecular and/or quasi-molecular ion information enabling a rapid, sensitive, and efficient wide-scope screening. Additionally, ion mobility separation (IMS) separates species of interest from coeluting matrix interferences and/or resolves isomers based on their charge, shape, and size, making IMS-derived collision cross section (CCS) a robust and matrix-independent parameter comparable between instruments.

Peripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTCL) are a heterogeneous group of rare lymphoid malignancies that mostly have poor prognoses with currently available treatments. Upfront consolidation with autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) is frequently carried out, but its efficacy has never been investigated in randomized trials. We designed a multicenter, international, retrospective study with the main objective of comparing progression-free survival and overall survival of patients with PTCL who underwent ASCT in complete remission (CR) after first-line chemotherapy with a control group who did not undergo ASCT.

Synthetic cannabinoids receptor agonists (SCRAs) are often almost completely metabolised, and hence their pharmacokinetics should be carefully evaluated for determining the most adequate biomarker in toxicological analysis. Two structurally related SCRAs, AMB-FUBINACA and AMB-CHMICA, were selected to evaluate their in vivo metabolism and pharmacokinetics using male Sprague-Dawley rats. Brain, liver, kidney, blood (serum) and urine samples were collected at different times to assess the differences in metabolism, metabolic reactions, tissue distribution and excretion.
