Baijiu, a traditional Chinese alcoholic beverage, carries China's rich historical and cultural heritage. Consumers experience varying levels of relaxation and pleasure after consuming different types of Baijiu, with the biological basis of delectation influenced by serotonin and dopamine. In this study, we prepared carbon fiber electrodes modified with surface decorated gold nanoparticles to directly measure the electrochemical response signals in the serum of mice before and after gavage with different types of Baijiu.

A substantial increase in human infections with A/H9N2 subtype avian influenza viruses (AIVs) and the emergence of novel reassortants carrying A/H9N2-origin internal genes has occurred in recent years. Different names have been used to describe the circulating and emerging A/H9 lineages.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play regulatory functions in various biological processes in tumor cells, however, the roles of lncRNAs in CRC-associated angiogenesis remain to be elucidated in CRC, as do the underlying mechanisms.
Methods: We used bioinformatics to screen differentially expressed lncRNAs from TCGA database.
Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are abundant and heterogeneous stromal cells in the tumor microenvironment, which play important roles in regulating tumor progression and therapy resistance by transferring exosomes to cancer cells. However, how CAFs modulate esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) progression and radioresistance remains incompletely understood. The expression of fibroblast activation protein (FAP) in CAFs was evaluated by immunohistochemistry in 174 ESCC patients who underwent surgery and 78 pretreatment biopsy specimens of ESCC patients who underwent definitive chemoradiotherapy.

Given the temporal and spatial uncertainty in the antigenicity of H9N2 AIVs, the immune protection efficiency of vaccines remains challenging. By developing an antigenicity prediction method for H9N2 AIVs, named PREDAC-H9, the global antigenic landscape of H9N2 AIVs was mapped.

However, the aberrant expression of most lncRNAs in colorectal cancer (CRC) remains elusive. This study aims to explore the clinical significance and potential mechanism of lncRNA ABHD11 antisense RNA 1 (ABHD11-AS1) in the colorectal cancer.

PB2 protein is a subunit of viral ribonucleoprotein (vRNP) complex playing distinct roles in viral transcription and replication. BAG6 (BCL2-associated athanogene 6) as a multifunctional host protein participates in physiological and pathological processes.

In 2022, samples were collected from duck farms around Poyang Lake in Jiangxi Province, China, which is located within the East Asia-Australasia flyway. Three strains of H4N6 avian influenza virus (AIV) were isolated.

However, the response of duck's adaptive immune system to IAV infection is poorly characterized due to lack of a detailed gene map of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC).
Results: We herein reported a chromosome-scale Beijing duck assembly by integrating Nanopore, Bionano, and Hi-C data.
Gut microbiota-derived metabolites are important for the replication and pathogenesis of many viruses. However, the roles of bacterial metabolites in swine enteric coronavirus (SECoV) infection remain poorly understood. Recent studies show that SECoVs infection significantly alters the composition of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs)-producing gut microbiota.

H3N8 viruses are widespread in chicken flocks; however, the zoonotic features of H3N8 viruses are poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate that H3N8 viruses were able to infect and replicate efficiently in organotypic normal human bronchial epithelial (NHBE) cells and lung epithelial (Calu-3) cells.

Methods: Gene chip data sets containing CAP patients and normal controls were screened from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. The downregulated differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened using a gene expression analysis tool (GEO2R).
Live poultry markets (LPMs) are regarded as hubs for avian influenza virus (AIV) transmission in poultry and are a major risk factor in human AIV infections. We performed an AIV surveillance study at a wholesale LPM, where different poultry species were sold in separate stalls, and nine retail LPMs, which received poultry from the wholesale LPM but where different poultry species were sold in one stall, in Guangdong province from 2017 to 2019. A higher AIV isolation rate was observed at the retail LPMs than the wholesale LPM.

Dogs are the closest companion animals to humans, but the role of dogs in the ecology of influenza viruses is unclear. H3N2 avian influenza viruses were transmitted to dogs around 2006 and have formed stable lineages.
