Background: Covered stent correction for a sinus venosus atrial septal defect (SVASD) was first performed in 2009. This innovative approach was initially viewed as experimental and was reserved for highly selected patients with unusual anatomic variants. In 2016, increasing numbers of procedures began to be performed, and in several centers, it is now offered as a standard of care option alongside surgical repair.

The aims of this study were to: (1) analyze the relationship between VSD closure/non-closure and mortality; (2) assess the presence of immortal-time bias.
Material And Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) complicated by VSD.
Covered stent correction of a superior sinus venosus atrial septal defect is increasingly performed as an alternative to surgical repair. While sinus node dysfunction requiring pacemaker implantation may be required after surgical repair, this has not been previously reported after covered stent implantation. We reviewed the experience in two interventional centers.

Endothelial progenitor cells and circulating endothelial cells have been proposed as useful markers of severity and disease progression in certain vascular diseases, including pulmonary arterial hypertension. Our study focused on evaluating the levels of circulating endothelial progenitor cells and circulating endothelial cells in patients with congenital left-to-right shunts and pulmonary hypertension undergoing definitive repair. Endothelial progenitor cells (identified by simultaneous co-expression of CD45dim, CD34 + and KDR2 + surface antibodies) and circulating endothelial cells (identified by simultaneous co-expression of inherent antibodies CD45-, CD31+, CD146 + and CD105+) were prospectively measured in seventy-four children (including children with Down syndrome), median age six years (2.

Currently, no consensus recommendations are available on how to best manage this group of patients for either the primary cardiologist or pulmonary hypertension subspecialist, including timing of referral. The purposes of this document are (1) to describe the various pulmonary hypertension groups and subgroups associated with congenital heart disease, (2) to describe imaging modalities used in patient evaluation, (3) to elucidate medical and surgical management considerations, (4) to highlight disparities within this population, and (5) to identify gaps and future research needs of patients with pulmonary hypertension associated with congenital heart disease.

The purpose of this study was to assess the association between DNA methylation status and congenital septal defects. The DNA methylation of seven CpG sites in the gene promoter was analyzed through pyrosequencing as a quantitative method in 48 patients with congenital septal defects and 104 individuals with patent ductus arteriosus (PDA).

Methods: This observational and retrospective study included patients with a diagnosis of bicuspid aortic valve who underwent cardiac surgery between January 1, 2003, and March 31, 2020. Demographic characteristics and perioperative conditions were described.
The gene regulates morphological changes during heart development, and it has been associated with epigenetic abnormalities observed in congenital heart defects (CHD). The aim of this research was to evaluate the association between DNA methylation levels of the gene promoter and congenital septal defects. DNA methylation levels of six CpG sites in the gene promoter were evaluated using pyrosequencing analysis in 35 patients with congenital septal defects and 48 controls.

Methods: A retrospective study was carried out. Patients with diagnosis of AI undergoing cardiac surgery at the National Institute of Cardiology Ignacio Chávez, from January 1, 2010 and March 31, 2020 were included; demographic characteristics and perioperative conditions of the patients were considered.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze whether right ventricular free wall longitudinal strain (RVFWSL) could be a predictor of low-cardiac-output syndrome (LCOS) after surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in patients with left ventricular ejection fraction ≥40%.
Design: Prospective, observational study.
Setting: The study was conducted at a third level university hospital.
To analyze the association of gene with congenital heart disease (CHD), and to determine if the variants rs703752, rs3729753 and rs2277923 increase the risk for developing CHD. PubMed, EBSCO and Web of Science databases were screened to identify eligible studies. Through a comprehensive meta-analysis software, the association between gene variants and susceptibility of CHD was calculated by pooled odd ratio (ORs) and 95% CI.

Background: Balloon angioplasty for native coarctation of the aorta (CoA) is successful in children and adults but in neonates results in frequent restenosis. The efficacy of balloon angioplasty for native CoA during infancy beyond the neonatal period was examined in infants aged 3 to 12 months of age.
Methods: A retrospective review of 68 infants who underwent balloon angioplasty for native CoA.
Background: Paravalvular leak (PVL) is a frequent and important complication after surgical valvular replacement that can cause heart failure and hemolytic anemia and is associated with poor clinical outcomes. Surgical reoperation has been the standard treatment, but it is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Transcatheter closure is a therapeutic alternative.

The use of echocardiography-fluoroscopy fusion (EFF) imaging has been developed for better characterization of complex anatomy and to facilitate key steps in interventional procedures. This review will detail the technology behind EFF, the differences between the two ultrasound fusion systems, and essential features of EFF imaging in congenital and structural heart disease interventions.

To investigate the role of right ventricular free wall strain (RVFWSL) to predict low functional capacity in repaired tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF). We prospectively enrolled 33 patients with rTOF with moderate to severe PR who underwent rest and peak exercise echocardiography on a semisupine cycloergometer. Conventional function and strain imaging parameters of both ventricles were measured.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the safety, efficacy, and complication rates of the ADO II AS and AVPs, specifically AVP II.
Methods: All patients undergoing PDA closure with an AVP or ADO II AS from 2011 to 2016 were included.
Background: Novel quantification of stroke volume according to mitral inflow and aortic outflow using automated real-time 3-dimensional volume colour flow Doppler echocardiography (3D-RT-VCFDE) is more accurate than 2-dimensional echocardiography and has excellent correlation with cardiac magnetic resonance imaging-based flows in adults. This technology is applied for the first time to the right heart and in children.
Methods: 3D-RT-VCFDE was performed in 61 image sets of flow through the aortic (AV), mitral (MV), pulmonary (PV), and tricuspid (TV) valves of 34 children.
