Endobronchial ultrasound guided transbronchial cryobiopsy versus forceps biopsy in peripheral lung lesions.

Introduction: Radial probe endobronchial ultrasound (RP-EBUS) is a modern technique for diagnosis of peripheral lung lesions. It is assumed that the addition of transbronchial cryobiopsy (TBCB) could increase the diagnostic value for RP-EBUS.

Objectives: The main objectives were to evaluate the efficacy and safety of RP-EBUS-guided TBCB for diagnosis of peripheral lung lesions and comparing it with RP-EBUS-guided transbronchial forceps biopsy.

Short term oxygen therapy effects in hypoxemic patients measured by drawing analysis.

Background: Chronic hypoxemia has deleterious effects on psychomotor function that can affect daily life. There are no clear results regarding short term therapy with low concentrations of O2 in hypoxemic patients. We seek to demonstrate, by measuring the characteristics of drawing, these effects on psychomotor function of hypoxemic patients treated with O2.

Fractal dimension analysis of malignant and benign endobronchial ultrasound nodes.

Background: Endobronchial ultrasonography (EBUS) has been applied as a routine procedure for the diagnostic of hiliar and mediastinal nodes. The authors assessed the relationship between the echographic appearance of mediastinal nodes, based on endobronchial ultrasound images, and the likelihood of malignancy.

Methods: The images of twelve malignant and eleven benign nodes were evaluated.

Results of bronchial artery embolization for the treatment of hemoptysis caused by neoplasm.

Purpose: To describe experience with bronchial artery embolization (BAE) in a cohort of patients with cancer.

Materials And Methods: All consecutive patients with cancer and at least one episode of hemoptysis that required BAE during a 14-year period were included in this observational retrospective review. The endpoints of the study were immediate success, recurrence of hemoptysis, mortality resulting from hemoptysis, and all-cause mortality.

Effects of a brief psychoanalytic intervention for perinatal depression.

This pilot study explores the effects of a brief individual psychoanalytic therapy on perinatal depressive symptoms. This intervention is based on the Geneva's mother-infant intervention model. A sample of 129 pregnant women was recruited in Geneva (Switzerland) and screened for depressive symptoms with two instruments: the 'Edinburgh postnatal depression scale' (EPDS) and the 'Dépistage anténatal de la dépression postnatale'.

Platinum complexes for multi-parametric assays using microarray systems.

Here, we present a two novel fluorescent dyes ethylenediaminechlorocholylglycinateplatinum(II), [Pt(CG)Cl(en)] complex 1 and bisursodeoxycholate(ethylenediamine)platinum(II), [Pt(UDC)(2)(en)] complex 2 based on well-known cis-platin chemistry. These platinum complexes contain cholylglycinate (CG) and ursodeoxycholate (UDC) as ligands. These compounds enable qualitative detection of double-helix DNA and quantitative detection (from pg to μg).

Bisursodeoxycholate(ethylenediamine)platinum(II): a new autofluorescent compound. Cytotoxic activity and cell cycle analysis in ovarian and hematological cell lines.

The present paper describes for the first time an intrinsic fluorescent square-planar platinum(II) complex carrying two ursodeoxycholate ligands ([Pt(UDC)2(en)], where UDC(-) = ursodeoxycholate), that emits at room temperature once free in solution. Kinetic studies were carried out in aqueous solution and in the presence of different NaCl concentrations: 4 mM (similar to cytoplasmic concentration) and 150 mM (similar to plasmatic concentration). This novel compound was synthesized from a [PtCl2(en)] complex and shows increased cytotoxic activity against both resting and cycling HeLa cells, with no toxicity for cell lines derived from neoplastic haematopoietic cells.

[Why is it essential to diagnose and prevent postpartum depression?].

Until today postpartum depression (PPD) remains too often banalised or misknown by the population who is frequently badly informed. Actually it is an important public health problem because it concerns more than one new mother out of ten without this pathology being diagnosed nor treated. The consequences of this depression can be serious both for the mother and for the child with latter developmental difficulties.

Thiourea, triazole and thiadiazine compounds and their metal complexes as antifungal agents.

Many currently available antifungal and antibacterial agents have undesirable toxic effects, and a wide spread use of these drugs has lead to rapid development of drug resistant strains which are the leading cause for treatment failure in both clinical and agricultural applications. The present article provides a synopsis of recent progress in investigations of new classes of antifungal compounds: disubstituted aliphatic and aromatic thioureas, triazole and thiazine compounds which act as ligands for transition metals. Antifungal effects of these compounds and selected metallic complexes versus representative plant pathogenic fungi are reviewed.

Intrinsically fluorescent cytotoxic cisplatin analogues as DNA marker molecules.

Two square planar derivatives of Pt(en)Cl(2) with intrinsic fluorescence in aqueous solution at room temperature, with quantum yields (Phi) 0.11 and 0.10, respectively, have been synthesized and characterized as [Pt(en)(CG)Cl] (Complex 1) and [Pt(en)(CG)(2)] (Complex 2) (en = ethylenediamine, CG = cholylglycinate).

N-benzoyl-N'-alkylthioureas and their complexes with Ni(II), Co(III) and Pt(II) - crystal structure of 3-benzoyl-1-butyl-1-methyl-thiourea: activity against fungi and yeast.

The thiourea derivatives of N-butylmethylamine (3-benzoyl-1-butyl-1-methyl-thiourea) (1), N-ethylisopropylamine (3-benzoyl-1-ethyl-1-isopropyl-thiourea) (2) and the corresponding complexes of 1 and 2 with Ni(II), Co(III) and Pt(II) have been synthesized. The compounds obtained were characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic methods (FT-IR, UV-Vis and NMR) and mass spectrometry. Compound 1, crystallized in the triclinic space group.

New organotropic compounds. Synthesis, characterization and reactivity of Pt(II) and Au(III) complexes with bile acids: DNA interactions and 'in vitro' anticancer activity.

Based on the ability of bile acids to vectorialize the cytostatic activity of other agents, we have designed and synthesized a new series of platinum and gold complexes. These compounds were studied and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, FAB(+)/MS, 1H, 13C and 195Pt NMR, UV-Vis spectroscopy and conductivity measurements in solution, among other techniques. Impact of postpartum depressive symptoms on mother and her 18-month-old infant.

Background: Postpartum depression (PPD) is known to have important negative effects on mother, infant and mother-child relationship.

Methods: We present a case-control study of 35 mothers and their 18-month-old infants. These mothers suffered from postpartum depressive symptoms (PDS) when the infants were three months old, as rated with the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS, Cox 1987).

Postpartum depression and mother-infant relationship at 3 months old.

Background: This paper is part of a prospective, epidemiologic study concerning postpartum depression (PPD). The women were first examined during pregnancy; after delivery they were seen with their infants at 3 and 18 months. The present study focuses on the 3-months-postpartum results.

Thiourea derivatives and their nickel(II) and platinum(II) complexes: antifungal activity.

We have synthesized two thiourea derivatives of methyl anthranilate (1, 2) and their complexes with nickel (3) and platinum(II) (4). We have also prepared the complexes of nickel(II) with two benzoylthiourea derivatives (5, 6). The obtained compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic methods (FT-IR, UV-vis, NMR), mass spectrometry and thermal analysis.
