Degree of dyspnoea at admission and discharge in patients with heart failure and respiratory diseases.

Background: Dyspnoea is a disabling symptom in patients admitted with heart failure (HF) and respiratory diseases (RD). The main aim of this study is to evaluate its intensity at admission and discharge and the relation with quality of life. We also describe its management, intensity, and evolution in HF and RD.

Breakthrough cancer pain and rational drug use.

Recent data indicate that there are large disparities in the use of opioid analgesics to control breakthrough cancer pain (BTcP) in Europe and worldwide. While it is clear that affordability is a key factor, it is certainly not the only one, and other factors, such as cultural differences and overall awareness, are undoubtedly responsible. More work remains to be done to overcome barriers in the use of these medications when warranted.

Hospital without dyspnea: rationale and design of a multidisciplinary intervention.

Dyspnea is a common and disabling symptom of respiratory and heart diseases, which is growing in incidence. During hospital admission, breathlessness is under-diagnosed and under-treated, although there are treatments available for controlling the symptom. We have developed a tailored implementation strategy directed to medical staff to promote the application of these pharmacological and non-pharmacological tools in dealing with dyspnea.

[Validation of the Spanish version of the Brief Pain Inventory in patients with oncological pain].

Background And Objective: Our goal was to validate the Spanish version of the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) questionnaire used to measure the intensity of oncological pain and its impact on activities of daily living in patients with cancer.

Patients And Method: Patients with oncological pain were consecutively included in the study. These patients filled up the Spanish version of the BPI questionnaire (CBD) and the Rotterdam Symptom Checklist (RCSL) during the inclusion visit and again after 3-5 days (patients with clinically stable oncological pain) or after one month (patients with unstable oncological pain).
