Regional unemployment and cyclical sensitivity in Spain.

Unemployment has been routinely used as a measure of the economic cycle. In addition, regional unemployment rates are characterized by, among other factors, their relation to the national unemployment rate. In this regard, the literature on regional sensitivity to the economic cycle has analyzed how fluctuations in the national unemployment rate affect the regions.

[Virological response to adefovir dipivoxil predicts the long-term development of resistance in previously untreated patients with HBeAg-negative chronic hepatitis B].

Background And Objective: Adefovir dipivoxil monotherapy in lamivudine-resistant patients is associated with more frequent development of resistance than in naïve patients. The virological response during treatment predicts the risk of developing resistance. The aims of this study were to assess the efficacy of adefovir dipivoxil treatment in naïve and lamivudine-resistant patients and to determine whether virological response predicts the development of adefovir resistance.

[Characteristics of the family of origin and family formed by women and men primary care physicians of Andalusia, Spain].

Background: The origin and formed family characteristics are related to physician's professional career. The purpose of this study was to know and compare by sex the characteristics of the origin family and formed family of women and men family physician in Andalusia.

Methods: Cross sectional and multicenter study.

A QEEG index of level of functional dependence for people sustaining acquired brain injury: the Seville Independence Index (SINDI).

Primary Objective: To find an easy-to-use, valid and reliable tool for evaluating the level of functional dependence of an individual with brain damage who seeks a diagnosis of his/her functional dependence in daily activities.

Methods: Eighty-one patients with acquired brain injury (ABI) in post-acute phase, 40 traumatic brain injury (TBI) and 41 cerebral vascular accident (CVA), were assessed using quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG) and grouped according to the FIM + FAM scale. Discriminant analysis was performed on QEEG variables to obtain a discriminant function with the best discriminative capacity between functionality groups.

[Expectations and needs detected among professionals at provincial organizations working in intersectorial action in health].

Background: Intersectorial Action in Health has been the methodology proposed for reducing inequality in health. The objectives of this study are to ascertain what experiences, expectations and needs are perceived to exist among the professionals working at provincial organizations in order to propose a framework for analyzing and carrying out intersectorial work.

Methods: With a qualitative design, 21 semi-structured individual surveys were conducted in July 2005 of professionals from provincial justice, education, health, equality and welfare organization and from law enforcement officials in Granada and Seville.

Cryopreservation and in vitro expansion of chondroprogenitor cells isolated from the superficial zone of articular cartilage.

Understanding the proliferation mechanisms of chondroprogenitor cells and their influence on cell differentiation is crucial in order to develop large-scale expansion processes for tissue engineering applications. Proliferation control mechanisms were mainly attributed to substrate limitation and cell-cell contact inhibition. The limiting substrates were found to be components of the FCS, with an optimal proliferation rate achieved in the presence of 40% FCS.
