Objectives: American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) infants historically experienced a disproportionate burden of invasive Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) disease, especially early in life. PedvaxHIB vaccine is preferentially recommended for AI/AN infants because it elicits protective antibody levels postdose 1. Vaxelis, a hexavalent vaccine that contains the same Hib conjugate as PedvaxHIB but at lower concentration, is recommended for US children, but postdose 1 Hib immunogenicity data are needed to inform whether a preferential recommendation should be made for AI/AN infants.

On October 18, 2019, Chile experienced the most important social upheaval since the country regained democracy in the late 1980s. The "Social Outbreak" surprised economic and political elites and seemed paradoxical to the international community who had often praised Chile as a model of successful development. In this paper, we used structural-demographic theory to analyze the interaction between the overproduction of elites and the stagnation in the relative income of the population as the underlying structural cause of Chilean political instability.

Management of embolic splenic abscess secondary to aortic valve endocarditis - case report and review of literature.

Background: Splenic abscess is a serious complication associated with infective endocarditis. There is still contradicting evidence regarding the optimal treatment pathway including timing of valve intervention and the approach for managing splenic foci.

The relationship between SARS-CoV-2 transmission and environmental factors has been analyzed in numerous studies since the outbreak of the pandemic, resulting in heterogeneous results and conclusions. This may be due to differences in methodology, considered variables, confounding factors, studied periods and/or lack of adequate data. Furthermore, previous works have reported that the lack of population immunity is the fundamental driver in transmission dynamics and can mask the potential impact of environmental variables.

A personalized intervention to prevent depression in primary care based on risk predictive algorithms and decision support systems: protocol of the e-predictD study.

Unlabelled: The predictD is an intervention implemented by general practitioners (GPs) to prevent depression, which reduced the incidence of depression-anxiety and was cost-effective. The e-predictD study aims to design, develop, and evaluate an evolved predictD intervention to prevent the onset of major depression in primary care based on Information and Communication Technologies, predictive risk algorithms, decision support systems (DSSs), and personalized prevention plans (PPPs). A multicenter cluster randomized trial with GPs randomly assigned to the e-predictD intervention + care-as-usual (CAU) group or the active-control + CAU group and 1-year follow-up is being conducted.

Dental pattern diversity in a military population and its usefulness for assessing the degree of certainty in dental identification.

In forensic dentistry, the analysis of dental diversity forms the basis of probability calculations in dental identification. The present study aimed to contribute to the knowledge of dental diversity in a Spanish military population (considering isolated teeth, sets of different numbers of teeth, and combinations of teeth of forensic interest) and its implications for dental identification. A further aim was to compare the performance of three coding systems (detailed, generic, and binary) to assess dental pattern diversity.

Identification of Asthma Phenotypes in the Spanish MEGA Cohort Study Using Cluster Analysis.

Introduction: The definition of asthma phenotypes has not been fully established, neither there are cluster studies showing homogeneous results to solidly establish clear phenotypes. The purpose of this study was to develop a classification algorithm based on unsupervised cluster analysis, identifying clusters that represent clinically relevant asthma phenotypes that may share asthma-related outcomes.

Methods: We performed a multicentre prospective cohort study, including adult patients with asthma (N=512) from the MEGA study (Mechanisms underlying the Genesis and evolution of Asthma).

Spontaneous rupture and upper gastrointestinal bleeding of solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas.

The solid pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPN) of the pancreas is an uncommon, low-grade malignant tumour, mostly seen in young women. We report a rare case of a 44-year-old female who presented with spontaneous rupture and upper gastrointestinal bleeding. The emergency endoscopy revealed a 2 cm bleeding ulcer on the duodenal bulb.

Propensity score analysis of psychological intimate partner violence and preterm birth.

Psychological intimate partner violence (IPV), a global public health problem, affects mothers during pregnancy. We evaluated its relationship with preterm birth. We established a cohort of 779 consecutive mothers receiving antenatal care and giving birth in 15 public hospitals in Spain.

The impact of PIPs on mortality and readmissions in older adults: a retrospective cohort study.

Purpose: Our aim was to determine the impact of potentially inappropriate prescriptions (PIP), according to "Screening Tool of Older Persons' Prescriptions" criteria version 2 (STOPP-2), on mortality and hospital admissions.

Methods: Monocentric retrospective cohort study. Patients over 65 years of age and who were consecutively discharged from internal medicine at a Spanish university hospital in 2016 were included.

Clinical and inflammatory characteristics of patients with asthma in the Spanish MEGA project cohort.

Introduction: The MEGA (MEchanism underlying the Genesis and evolution of Asthma) project is a multicenter cohort study carried out in eight Spanish hospitals, gathering clinical, physiological, and molecular data from patients with asthma and multimorbidities in order to gain insight into the different physiopathological mechanisms involved in this disorder.

Material And Methods: We report the baseline clinical and physiological characteristics and biomarker measures of adult participants in the project with the aim of better understanding the natural history and underlying mechanisms of asthma as well as the associated multimorbidities across different levels of severity. We carried out a detailed clinical examination, pulmonary function testing, measurement of fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), blood counts, induced sputum, skin prick tests, chest computed tomography scan, asthma questionnaires, and multimorbidity assessment in 512 asthmatic patients.

Comparative study of adverse drug reactions among direct-acting oral anticoagulants and vitamin K antagonists using the EudraVigilance database.

Our aim was to compare adverse drug reactions (ADRs) associated with direct-acting oral anticoagulants and vitamin K antagonists from the European EudraVigilance (EV) database. The EV database is the system for the analysis of information on suspected ADRs that are authorised, or being evaluated in clinical trials, in the European Economic Area. Registered ADRs (from the groups "Gastrointestinal disorders", "General disorders and administration site conditions", "Injury, poisoning and procedural complications", "Nervous system (NS) disorders" and "Vascular disorders") for apixaban, rivaroxaban, dabigatran and vitamin K antagonists (VKA) were collected by age group (< 65 years; 65-85 years and > 85 years) and by sex.

Novel approaches in occupational asthma diagnosis and management.

Purpose Of Review: To describe the recent findings of the last 2 years on the epidemiology and phenotypes of occupational asthma, as well as new developments in its diagnosis and management.

Recent Findings: Data from nine longitudinal studies showed a population attributable fraction for the occupational contribution to incident asthma of 16%. The main phenotypes of occupational asthma are: occupational asthma caused by high-molecular-weight (HMW) or low-molecular-weight (LMW) agents, irritant-induced asthma and occupational asthma-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease overlap.

A low-cost portable measurement system for a clinical test of balance.

The current work presents the development and technical validation, in terms of accuracy and latency, of a low-cost portable device that allows identifying possible risks of falling in people when they realize spinal trunk lateral movements. The device is comprised of an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) located on the lower back. Measurements are processed to get meaningful parameters such as rotation angles of the back when realizing lateral movements.

Community Awareness of Outreach Efforts to Reduce Underage Drinking on California Indian Reservations.

We report an evaluation of a combined individual- and community-level treatment and prevention effort to reduce underage drinking by American Indian (AI) youths on rural California Indian reservations. The interventions included: brief motivational interviewing and psychoeducation for Tribal youths, restricting alcohol sales to minors in alcohol sales outlets, and community mobilization and awareness activities. Surveys were collected from 120 adults and 74 teens to evaluate the awareness and effectiveness of the interventions.

DNA methylation levels and telomere length in human teeth: usefulness for age estimation.

In the last decade, increasing knowledge of epigenetics has led to the development of DNA methylation-based models to predict age, which have shown high predictive accuracy. However, despite the value of teeth as forensic samples, few studies have focused on this source of DNA. This study used bisulfite pyrosequencing to measure the methylation levels of specific CpG sites located in the ELOVL2, ASPA, and PDE4C genes, with the aim of selecting the most age-informative genes and determining their associations with age, in 65 tooth samples from individuals 15 to 85 years old.
