Objective: To describe the use of intraoperative transsplenic injection of agitated saline (TIAS) and confirm temporarily full attenuation of extrahepatic portosystemic shunt (EHPSS) in dogs.
Study Design: Retrospective case series.
Animals: A total of 40 dogs.
Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory in the oxicam group. It has been extensively used in human and veterinary medicine for their anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activities. Meloxicam has shown high therapeutic potential for disorders such as osteoarthritis, musculoskeletal disorder, acute respiratory infection, puerperal septicemia, mastitis and mastitis-metritis-agalactia syndrome.

Background: Anemia represents a commonly reported comorbidity in patients diagnosed with heart failure (HF), related with a higher risk of unfavorable outcomes such as recurrent hospitalizations and mortality. There is a lack of evidence in Latin America regarding this topic. Our aim was to evaluate the prognostic value of the diagnosis of anemia in patients from the Colombian Heart Failure Registry (RECOLFACA).

Cells display a variety of characteristics related to their shape, structure and contained fluid, which influences the diffusion of proteins and their interactions. To gain insights into the spatial effects shaping intracellular regulation, we apply machine learning (ML) to explore a previously developed spatial model of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling.

The application of a synthesized carbon xerogel (RFX) for the adsorptive removal from water of ciprofloxacin (CPX), a widely used fluoroquinolones-group antibiotic for humans and animals, has been reported in this work. The carbon xerogel was characterized by N adsorption-desorption isotherms, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, TPD studies, elemental analysis, determination of isoelectric point (pH) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). CPX adsorption experiments were conducted in batch mode, using results obtained with F400 commercial activated carbon for comparison purposes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLake Guamuez is the second largest lake in Colombia and economically supports hundreds of families in the area. The main activities carried out in the region have focused on tourism, agriculture, livestock, and rainbow trout production; however, these activities have been associated with contamination of the lake. This research aimed to evaluate the water quality of Lake Guamuez using somatic coliphages (SCs) as bioindicators.

Like other bacterial elements, TA modules have been widely exploited for biotechnological purposes in diverse applications, such as molecular cloning and anti-cancer therapies. However, their use in plants has been limited, leaving room for the development of new approaches.

Since the safety of new-generation polyester-based internal coatings regarding the migration of non-intentionally added substances (NIAS) is poorly documented, studies are needed to identify NIAS originating from these food-contact materials (FCM). The aim of this study was to identify volatile and semi-volatile NIAS from polyester-based coatings in order to assess their hazard and ensure consumers' safety with regard to exposure from canned food. Extraction and migration tests were carried out on a single polyester-coated tin plate (5 batches) using two solvents: acetonitrile and ethanol 95%, then FCM's extracts and migrates were analysed by GC-MS.

Grossly, the mass filled the rostral part of an enlarged orbit and compressed the globe toward the caudal pole of the orbit. The brown, 6-cm tumor had central yellow and brown areas, and a smooth, glistening cut surface.

Mice deficient of Notch signaling molecules have impaired skin and hair follicle development associated with local tissue inflammation. However, mechanisms underlying skin inflammation and pathology resulting from defective Notch signals are not well understood.

Pharmacokinetic parameters were established in 4-month Holstein calves after intravenous (IV) and intramuscular (IM) administration. The drug was administered to 12 animals (10 mg/kg) for both IV and IM routes following a crossover design.

To tackle this issue, a dataset with 1300 samples was collected, from both raw and treated wastewater from 45 wastewater treatment plants in Spain and Chile collected over 4 years. The type of regressor, scaling, and dimensionality reduction technique and nature of the data play crucial roles in the performance of the processing pipeline.

Background: The value of Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT-2 inhibitor) therapy in individuals with heart failure with preserved EF (HFpEF) was unknown until the EMPEROR-Preserved trial. We aimed to assess the proportion of patients with HFpEF that are eligible for empagliflozin therapy within the Colombian Heart Failure Registry (RECOLFACA).
Methods: RECOLFACA enrolled adult patients with a HF diagnosis during 2017-2019 from 60 medical centers in Colombia.
"Horchata de chufa" is a beverage produced from tiger nut tubers, which yields a high amount of by-product. This study explored the functional properties of the Spanish tiger nut beverage (TNB) and its by-product (TNBP) together with the bioaccessibility and bioavailability of polyphenols . TNB and TNBP were characterized for polyphenols LC/MS/MS and underwent digestion (INFOGEST).

Their main effect on several organs and systems is associated with chronic exposure going from immunotoxicity, estrogenic disorders, and renal failure to cancer (in animals and humans). OTA belongs to Group 1 according to the International Agency for Research in Cancer (IARC) and it has legislated limited values; not happening for BEA nor ENN B.

Thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA), characterized by microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and multisystem organ dysfunction, is a life-threatening disease. Patients with TMA who do not exhibit a severe ADAMTS-13 deficiency (defined as a disintegrin-like and metalloprotease with thrombospondin type 1 motif no. 13 activity ≥10%: TMA-13n) continue to experience elevated mortality rates.

CD4+ T cells are thought to be one of the main cell types in the tumor microenvironment. However, few immune signatures have been studied, and many of these lack related spatial data.
