We present new satellite-based daily observations of the 3D distribution of aerosols from most common types and origins, both over land and ocean, derived from TROpospheric Ozone Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) measurements. This is done using the so-called AEROS5P (AEROsol Sentinel 5 Precursor) approach which retrieves vertical profiles of aerosol extinction from passive measurements of high-resolution spectral reflectance in the visible and near infrared for cloud-free conditions. Previous work demonstrated the potential of this approach, but it was initially applicable only to biomass burning aerosols with limited spatial coverage over ocean.

Leprosy is a chronic infection caused by bacteria called . This is a prevalent disease in low-income countries, and it has not been completely eradicated. We present the case of a 29-year-old man with a previous diagnosis of Hansen's disease, who consulted for pain in the left elbow and wrist, associated with fever with preserved mobility and pain on palpation.

Advancing knowledge of the mineralogical composition of dust is key for understanding and predicting its climate and environmental impacts. The variability of dust mineralogy from one source to another and its evolution during atmospheric transport is not measured at large scale. In this study we use laboratory measurements to demonstrate that the extinction signature of suspended dust aerosols in the 740 - 1250 cm atmospheric window can be used to derive dust mineralogy in terms of the main infrared - active minerals, namely quartz, clays, feldspars and calcite.

Schwannomas are tumors of the macroglia cells, most frequently localized to the brain, in the pontocerebellar angle. We present the case of a 53 year-old female patient who presented multiple times with diffuse abdominal pain and was initially diagnosed as having a complex right adnexal mass. Exploratory laparotomy found a retroperitoneal mass and later on, the presence of a sacral schwannoma was found, suspected initially on contrast magnetic resonance imaging of the abdomen and pelvis, and confirmed by means of lesional biopsy and histopathology.

Vertebral artery agenesis is a rare congenital malformation, with few reported cases in the literature and no epidemiological data in the world at this point in time. The importance of diagnosis lies in identifying a potential risk factor for future ischemic events of the posterior circulation, in particular in the young population. It is also important to determine the etiology of chronic headache of unexplained cause that could be attributed to this entity.

We present the "lidar beams in opposite directions" (LIBOD) technique and applications for quality assessment of spaceborne observations made by Cloud-Aerosol Lidar with Orthogonal Polarization (CALIOP) onboard the Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation satellite. LIBOD is applicable to standard total backscatter lidar because it does not require a priori knowledge of the particle extinction-to-backscatter ratio. In this paper, we present (i) an objective assessment of the lidar signal quality and representativity of correlative ground-based lidar and CALIOP measurements only using normalized range-corrected lidar signals and (ii) a numerical filtering and optimization technique for reducing the spurious oscillations induced by noisy signal differentiation as needed for retrieval of particle extinction coefficients and extinction-to-backscatter ratio profiles.

We have developed a new airborne UV lidar for the forest canopy and deployed it in the Landes forest (France). It is the first one that: (i) operates at 355 nm for emitting energetic pulses of 16 mJ at 20 Hz while fulfilling eye-safety regulations and (ii) is flown onboard an ultra-light airplane for enhanced flight flexibility. Laser footprints at ground level were 2.

We present a so-called lidar and almucantar (LidAlm) algorithm that combines information provided by standard elastic backscatter lidar (i.e., calibrated attenuated backscatter coefficient profile at one or two wavelengths) and sunphotometer AERONET inversion of almucantar like measurements (i.
