Erythema nodosum (EN) is a reactive inflammatory panniculitis, which has been associated with medications, infections, autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases. It has rarely been associated with neoplasms. We present the case of a 61-year old woman who was admitted because 3-week history of painful erythematous subcutaneous nodules on the lower limbs clinically consistent with EN, which was confirmed by skin biopsy.

Though only a small fraction of L1 copies is able to produce the machinery to mobilize autonomously, Alu elements and degenerate L1 copies can hijack their functional machinery and mobilize . The expression and subsequent copy number expansion of L1 and Alu can exert pathological effects on their hosts, promoting genome instability, inflammation, and cell cycle alterations.

The objective of this study was to estimate the overall survival and clinical outcomes of patients diagnosed with mucosal melanoma in a Colombian hospital.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted at Fundación Valle del Lili, a single center located in Cali, Colombia.
Long interspersed element 1 (LINE-1; L1) are a family of transposons that occupy ~17% of the human genome. Though a small number of L1 copies remain capable of autonomous transposition, the overwhelming majority of copies are degenerate and immobile. Nevertheless, both mobile and immobile L1s can exert pleiotropic effects (promoting genome instability, inflammation, or cellular senescence) on their hosts, and L1's contributions to aging and aging diseases is an area of active research.

The non-muscle invasive (NMI) variant represents 75% of cases and has a mortality rate of less than 1%; however, it has a high recurrence rate. The gold standard of management is transurethral resection in the case of new lesions.

Marine species usually ingest plastic fragments, mistaking them for food. Many toxic compounds, such as plastic additives that are not chemically bound to the plastic matrix, can be released from MPs and NPs and reach humans via the food chain.

Objective: To determine the survival of patients living with HIV and cancer in Cali, Colombia.
This paper describes a new methodology for carrying out quantitative extraction of cloxacillin from drinking and river water samples using a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) as a selective sorbent for solid-phase extraction (MISPE). Several polymers were synthesized via thermal polymerization using cloxacillin as a template, methacrylic acid (MAA) as a functional monomer, ethyleneglycoldimethacrylate (EGDMA) as a cross-linker and different solvents as porogens. Binding characteristics of the adequate molecularly imprinted and non-imprinted (NIP) polymers were evaluated via batch adsorption assays following the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms and Scatchard assays.

Its quality depends on several factors, such as the type of cocoa, the fermentation process, and the control of the contaminants in the fermented beans. This study aims to evaluate whether the induced magnetic field treatment during the fermentation process or the pathogen reduction with gamma irradiation after the fermentation affect the characteristics of the cocoa liquor obtained from Ecuadorian cocoa beans.

A number of pleiotropic effects induced by L1 (promoting genome instability, inflammation, or cellular senescence) have been observed, and L1's contributions to aging and aging diseases is an area of active research. However, because of the cell type-specific nature of transposon control, the catalogue of L1 regulators remains incomplete.

Aim: To report a series of consecutive nephrectomies with caval thrombectomy performed in an academic center.
Nowadays augmented reality, 3D Image, mixed reality and see-through applications are very attractive technologies due to their great potential. Holographic optical elements can provide interesting solutions for injection and extraction of the image in the waveguides that are part of the see-through devices. We have developed a coupled waveguide system based on slanted transmission gratings recorded in manufactured photopolymers.

The use of an IAS could have an impact on surgical compared to conventional insufflation systems (CIS). The present study aimed to compare the clinical effectiveness/safety, healthorganizational, and pathological/oncological outcomes of the CIS versus IAS during robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP).

Cancer estimates are often calculated from population-based cancer registries, which lack valuable information to guide decision-making (clinical outcomes). We describe the trends in clinical practice for GA using a hospital-based cancer registry over a timespan of 15 years.

Material And Methods: A simulated model for laser nephro-lithotripsy was designed. Two ex vivo porcine kidneys were used.
Neutrophils are the most abundant human white blood cell and constitute a first line of defense in the innate immune response. Neutrophils are short-lived cells, and thus the impact of organismal aging on neutrophil biology, especially as a function of biological sex, remains poorly understood. Here, we describe a multi-omic resource of mouse primary bone marrow neutrophils from young and old female and male mice, at the transcriptomic, metabolomic and lipidomic levels.

This fixation process produces a modification in the proteins called "crosslinks", which improves protein stability necessary for their conservation. Currently, these samples are mainly used in clinical practice for performing immunohistochemical analysis, since these modifications do not suppose a drawback for this technique; however, crosslinks difficult the protein extraction process.

A key challenge in evolutionary genetics is to figure out how and why species-defining traits have come to be. We used the thermotolerance growth advantage of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae over its sister species Saccharomyces paradoxus as a model for addressing these questions.
