3D Breast Scanning in Plastic Surgery Utilizing Free iPhone LiDAR Application: Evaluation, Potential, and Limitations.

Background: Three-dimensional (3D) imaging enhances surgical planning and documentation in plastic surgery, but high costs limit accessibility. Mobile Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology offers a potential cost-effective alternative.

Objectives: To evaluate the accuracy and clinical utility of iPhone-based LiDAR scanning for breast measurements compared to traditional methods, and to establish standardized protocols for clinical implementation.

Virtual surgical planning in microsurgical head and neck reconstruction: The Newcastle experience.

Head and neck microvascular reconstruction is a complex but powerful tool following immediate cancer ablation or delayed sequalae after cancer treatment. Virtual surgical planning (VSP), using computer-aided design or computer-aided manufacturing has emerged as a potentially beneficial adjunct to head and neck reconstruction. The aim of this study was to assess the outcomes of VSP technology using the KLS Martin custom-made cutting guides and low-profile plates in head and neck microvascular reconstruction in our centre.

Avoiding "a piece of paper on the wall that everyone ignores": A qualitative study on the barriers for implementing open fracture guidelines.

Background: Ortho-plastic evidence-based clinical guidelines for open fractures have demonstrated to standardise care and improve outcomes for patients admitted following lower extremity trauma. Despite its benefits, very few countries have introduced such guidance. The aim of this study was to explore the attitudes, barriers and limitations to the development and implementation of guidelines for lower limb open fractures METHODS: Twelve renowned orthopaedic and plastic surgeons, based in countries with no guidelines at present, underwent semi-structured interviews.

Quality of Life after Open Extremity Trauma (QUINTET) study: An international, multicentric, observational, cohort study of quality of life following lower extremity open fractures.

Introduction: Open lower limb fractures are severe injuries with long-lasting consequences. Limited research has been conducted on the impact of these injuries on quality of life (QoL), internationally.

Methods: The Quality of Life after Open Extremity Trauma (QUINTET) study was designed as an international, multicentric, observational, cohort study of patients presented with open lower limb fractures.

The "Flapbot": A Global Perspective on the Validity and Usability of a Flap Monitoring Chatbot.

Background:  The Flapbot chatbot assists in free-flap monitoring, emphasizing accessibility, user-friendliness, and global reliability. This study assesses Flapbot's worldwide validity and usability and uses qualitative analysis to identify areas for future enhancement.

Methods:  Flapbot, built on Google's DialogFlow, was evaluated by international plastic surgeons.

Characterization of Immune Cell Infiltration and Collagen Type III Disorganization in Human Secondary Lymphedema: A Case-control Study.

Background: Secondary lymphedema (SL) affects 120 million people globally, posing a lifelong burden for up to 37% of cancer survivors. Chronic inflammation and progressive fibrosis are key drivers of SL, yet detailed characterization of immune cell subpopulations across lymphedema stages is lacking. This study aimed to investigate the immunologic profile of lymphedematous skin and its association with extracellular matrix changes, which could serve as clinical biomarkers or therapeutic targets.

One-stop autologous breast reconstruction: A safe and effective cost-saving pathway.

Introduction: Patients undergoing autologous breast reconstruction usually require further operations as part of their reconstructive journey. This involves contralateral breast symmetrization and nipple-areola complex (NAC) reconstruction. Restrained access to elective operating space led us to implement a one-stop breast reconstruction pathway.

Pharmacological interventions for early-stage frozen shoulder: a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of pharmacological interventions for treating early-stage, pain predominant, adhesive capsulitis, also known as frozen shoulder.

Methods: We performed a systematic review in accordance with PRSIMA guidelines. Searches were conducted on PUBMED, EMBASE and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials on the 24th of February 2022.

Clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of angiosarcoma of the head and neck: A 17-year single-centre experience.

Introduction: Angiosarcomas in the head and neck region are aggressive tumours associated with high local recurrence and metastatic rates. We present our 17-year experience at the North of England Bone and Soft Tissue Tumour Service.

Methods: A retrospective review of our prospectively maintained database was undertaken, looking for patients diagnosed with angiosarcomas affecting the head and neck.

Lymphedema-Associated Fibroblasts Are Related to Fibrosis and Stage Progression in Patients and a Murine Microsurgical Model.

Background: The driver of secondary lymphedema (SL) progression is chronic inflammation, which promotes fibrosis. Despite advances in preclinical research, a specific effector cell subpopulation as a biomarker for therapy response or stage progression is still missing for SL.

Methods: Whole skin samples of 35 murine subjects of a microsurgically induced SL model and 12 patients with SL were collected and their fibroblasts were isolated.

'Thou shalt not throw away a living thing': A single-centre 10-year experience using the spare parts principle for complex sarcoma reconstruction.

Introduction: For aggressive limb sarcomas beyond reconstructive reach, an amputation may be the only alternative to achieve a complete tumour resection. However, very proximal amputations result in greater loss of function and quality-of-life impact. The spare parts principle advocates utilising tissues distal to the amputation site, for reconstructing complex defects and preserving the function.

Plastic Surgery Training across Seven Continents: Results from the First Global Trainee Survey.

Unlabelled: Little is known about the demographics and ambitions of plastic surgery trainees and if these differ between regions. This study sought opinion from current and recently graduated plastic surgery trainees to map demographics, training structure, and ambitions of plastic surgery trainees worldwide.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was designed and administered by the international trainee organization International Confederation of Societies of Plastic Surgery Trainees.

This study systematically analyzed the educational value of microsurgery-related videos on this platform.
