Phosphorus (P) is an essential element for plant growth, playing a crucial role in various metabolic processes. View Article and Find Full Text PDFThis paper provides an overview of the impacts of mining-related environmental liabilities on humans, soils, sediments, surface water and groundwater across various mining districts in Zacatecas, Mexico. An analysis has been carried out on the areas of the state most affected by the presence of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) such as arsenic, lead, cadmium, copper, chromium and zinc, identifying priority areas for environmental assessment and remediation. Likewise, a review of the concentrations of PTEs reported in different environmental matrices of the state's mining areas with the presence of environmental liabilities was carried out, most of which exceed the maximum permissible limits established by Mexican and international regulations, generating an environmental risk for the populations near these districts due to their potential incorporation into the food chain.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFAim: To evaluate whether treatment with resiniferatoxin (RTX) is capable of lowering the plasma levels of PGE and TNF-α, as well as histopathological parameters in inflammation of pulp tissue in a mouse experimental model.
Methodology: Ten groups of six BALB/c mice were formed as follows: healthy group (H ), healthy group treated with RTX (H ), two groups with pulp inflammation at 14 and 18 hours (PI /PI ), six groups with pulpal inflammation plus treatment with Ibuprofen (IBU /IBU ), dexamethasone (DEX /DEX ) and resiniferatoxin (RTX /RTX ) at 14 and 18 hours, respectively. Pulpal inflammation was induced through occlusal exposure of the pulp of the maxillary first molar.
The study of metal-tolerant bacteria is important for bioremediation of contaminated environments and development of green technologies for material synthesis due to their potential to transform toxic metal ions into less toxic compounds by mechanisms such as reduction, oxidation and/or sequestration. In this study, we report the isolation of seven lead-tolerant bacteria from a metal-contaminated site at Zacatecas, México. The bacteria were identified as members of the Staphylococcus and Bacillus genera by microscopic, biochemical and 16S rDNA analyses.

Physicochemical characterization showed that substrates were moderately to strongly calcareous with predominantly neutral to slightly alkaline pH, moderate to high cation-exchange capacity and high organic matter content.
