Survival Estimation Using Multistate Cormack-Jolly-Seber Models-The Case of the Bearded Vulture in Spain.

The bearded vulture () is an endangered species with a specialist osteophagous (bone) diet. We estimated the survival and productivity of this vulture in the Aragonese Pyrenees, where the main population of the species in Europe is found. We used a database covering a period of 33 years (1987-2020).

Many animals make behavioural changes to cope with winter conditions, being gregariousness a common strategy. Several factors have been invoked to explain why gregariousness may evolve during winter, with individuals coming together and separating as they trade off the different costs and benefits of living in groups. These trade-offs may, however, change over space and time as a response to varying environmental conditions.

Synthesis of Cyclosiphonodictyol A and Its Bis(sulfato).

The first synthesis of the marine benzoxepane hydroquinone cyclosiphonodictyol A and its bis(sulfato) from commercial (+)-sclareolide is reported. The key steps of the synthetic sequence (11 steps, 46% global) are the nucleophilic attack of a hindered tertiary alkoxide, a ring-closing metathesis reaction, and the Diels-Alder cycloaddition of a dienol acetate.

Seasonal and circadian biases in bird tracking with solar GPS-tags.

Global Positioning System (GPS) tags are nowadays widely used in wildlife tracking. This geolocation technique can suffer from fix loss biases due to poor satellite GPS geometry, that result in tracking data gaps leading to wrong research conclusions. In addition, new solar-powered GPS tags deployed on birds can suffer from a new "battery drain bias" currently ignored in movement ecology analyses.

[Left ventricular aneurysm and differential diagnosis with pseudoaneurysm].

Left ventricular aneurysm and pseudoaneurysm are two complications of myocardial infarction in which the role of imaging is paramount. The authors describe a case of a true aneurysm of the posterior wall, for which cardiac magnetic resonance was useful, although only intra-operative assessment confirmed the diagnosis.
