The interaction of Ni with (6,0) and (8,0) zigzag carbon nanotube exterior surfaces containing two vacancies was studied using density functional theory (DFT). A two-vacancy defect was analysed in order to anchor Ni, and the pristine nanotube was also considered as a reference for each chirality. The adsorbed Ni stability and the nanotube's geometry and electronic structure were analysed before and after the adsorption.

If we aim to develop efficient synthetic models of protein receptors and enzymes, we must understand the relationships of intra- and intermolecular interactions between hosts and guests and how they mutually influence their conformational energy landscape so as to adapt to each other to maximize binding energies and enhance substrate selectivities. Here, we introduce a novel design of cofacial (Zn)bisporphyrin cages based on dynamic imine bonding, which is synthetically simple, but at the same time highly robust and versatile, affording receptors composed of only -hybridized C and N atoms. The high structural rigidity of these cages renders them ideal hosts for ditopic molecules that can fit into the cavity and bind to both metal centers, leading to association constants as high as 10 M in chloroform.

We study the entanglement harvesting between two identical buckled honeycomb lattices placed inside a planar microcavity. By applying time dependent perturbation theory, we obtain quantum correlations between both layers induced by the cavity field. The adaptive immune response is under circadian control, yet, why adaptive immune reactions continue to exhibit circadian changes over long periods of time is unknown. Using a combination of experimental and mathematical modeling approaches, we show here that dendritic cells migrate from the skin to the draining lymph node in a time-of-day-dependent manner, which provides an enhanced likelihood for functional interactions with T cells. Rhythmic expression of TNF in the draining lymph node enhances BMAL1-controlled ICAM-1 expression in high endothelial venules, resulting in lymphocyte infiltration and lymph node expansion.
