Benzophenones (BPs) are widely used as photoinitiators (PIs) or printing inks in food packaging, which may migrate into foods. However, the toxicity information of some BP analogues, such as 4,4'-bis(diethylamino)-benzophenone (DEAB), 4-phenylbenzophenone (4-PBP), 4 (hydroxymethyl)benzophenone (4-HMBP), those are used as PIs is lacking. Developmental toxicity is a health concern associated with PIs exposure.

Article Synopsis
  • The rise of Spodoptera frugiperda (fall armyworm) poses a threat to crops like corn and sorghum, leading to a search for alternative control methods due to resistance to chemicals and Bt crops.
  • The study screened fifty Napier grass germplasms, finding that most had antibiotic effects that reduced FAW consumption and increased mortality rates, with some particularly attracting female moths for oviposition.
  • Selected Napier grass and signal grass were effective in managing FAW larvae, and Desmodium uncinatum showed significant toxicity, highlighting their potential roles in integrated pest management strategies in Taiwan.
