We previously found that lung tumor development was reduced in a presenilin (PS) Alzheimer's disease (AD) mouse model. Here, we investigated whether this reducing effect could occur in a different AD mouse model. We investigated urethane-induced (1 mg/g) lung tumor development and melanoma growth in Swedish amyloid precursor protein (SwAPP) transgenic mice.

Chitinase 3-like 1 (Chi3L1) protein is up-regulated in various diseases including solid cancers. According to Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS)/Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM)/Differentially Expressed Gene (DEG) analyses, Chi3L1 is associated with 38 cancers, and more highly associated with cancer compared to other oncogenes such as EGFR, TNFα, etc. However, the mechanisms and pathways by which Chi3L1 is associated with cancer are not clear.

Chemokine receptors are implicated in inflammation and immune responses. Neuro-inflammation is associated with activation of astrocyte and amyloid-beta (Aβ) generations that lead to pathogenesis of Alzheimer disease (AD). Previous our study showed that deficiency of CC chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) results in activation of astrocytes and Aβ deposit, and thus memory dysfunction through increase of CC chemokine receptor 2 (CCR2) expression.

Estrogen has been known to reduce the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, exact mechanisms are not clear. We investigated whether estrogen can increase amyloid-beta (Aβ) degradation and affects Aβ-induced memory impairment in an estrogen deficiency model.

It has been known that myriocin inhibits melanoma growth. However, the effects and action mechanisms of myriocin on lung cancer cell growth have not been reported. In this study, we examined whether myriocin isolated from Mycelia sterilia inhibits cell growth of lung cancer cells (A549 and NCI-H460) as well as possible signaling pathways involved in cell growth inhibition.
