Purpose: The POP-RT phase 3 randomized trial showed improved biochemical failure-free survival and metastasis-free survival with whole pelvic radiation therapy versus prostate-only radiation therapy for high and very high-risk prostate cancer, albeit with worse RTOG late urinary toxicity. We report updated late urinary adverse effects and bladder dose-effect relations within this trial.

Methods And Materials: Late urinary toxicity and the cumulative severity of each symptom during the follow-up period were graded using the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE), version 5.

High-throughput systems allow screening and analysis of large number of samples simultaneously under same conditions. Over recent years, high-throughput systems have found applications in fields other than drug discovery like bioprocess industries, pollutant detection, material microarrays, etc. With the introduction of materials in such HT platforms, the screening system has been enabled for solid phases apart from conventional solution phase.

The progression of liver disease from normal to cirrhotic state is characterized by modulation of the stiffness of the extracellular matrix (ECM). Mimicking this modulation in vitro scaffold could provide a better insight into hepatic cell behavior. In this study, interpenetrating poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-gelatin) cryogels were synthesized in 48 different compositions to yield scaffolds of different properties.

While hepatic cell lines are mainly used for in vitro drug induced toxicity studies, they exhibit limited functionalities. To overcome this, the authors have employed genetically engineered mouse hepatoma cells, Hepa/8F5, wherein expression of liver enriched transcription factors is induced by doxycycline leading to increased functionality. Further enhancement in functionality is achieved by spheroid culture in a previously developed 3D cell culture platform.

Among various tools of product monitoring, chromatography is of vital importance as it also extends to the purification of product. Immobilized metal affinity cryogel (Cu(II)-iminodiacetic acid- and Ni(II)-nitrilotriacetic acid-polyacrylamide) minicolumns (diameter 8 mm, height 4 mm, void volume 250 μl) were inserted in open-ended 96-well plate and different chromatographic parameters and bioprocess conditions were analysed. The platform was first validated with lysozyme.

In this study, the potential of cryogel bilayer wound dressing and skin regenerating graft for the treatment of surgically created full thickness wounds was evaluated. The top layer was composed of polyvinylpyrrolidone-iodine (PVP-I) cryogel and served as the antiseptic layer, while the bottom regenerative layer was made using gelatin cryogel. Both components of the bilayer showed typical features of a cryogel interconnected macropore network, rapid swelling, high water uptake capacity of about 90%.

A novel supermacroporous cryogel matrix, poly(4-vinyl pyridine-co-divinyl benzene) has been synthesized by free radical polymerization using 4-vinyl pyridine and divinyl benzene as monomers and poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate as crosslinker. Hydrophobic property of such synthesized matrix allows capture of polyaromatic hydrocarbons like benzo[a]pyrene. The cryogel matrix produced is highly porous (porosity more than 80%) having large and interconnected pores in the range of 10-100 μm that allows easy passage of particulate matter and viscous liquids.
