Background: Early Mobilization in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) enhances patients' evolution, but has been rarely studied in neurological ICUs. The aim of this study was to assess gait training with body-weight support (BWS) in neuroICU, and to report on its safety, feasibility and on delays before walking with and without BWS.

Methods: This study was an observational one-year single-center study.

Article Synopsis
  • Obesity rates have significantly increased from 1975 to 2014, currently affecting 17% of adults in France and over 35% in the U.S., leading to challenges in drug dosing due to altered pharmacokinetics in obese patients.
  • The goal of the project was to create an online tool called Adapt'Obese, which provides personalized medication dosage recommendations for obese patients based on their sex, height, and weight, utilizing a robust database of 204 articles for 84 different drugs.
  • Future plans for Adapt'Obese include adding more medications and enhancing functionalities to improve dosing recommendations, similar to adaptations for patients with renal insufficiency.

Agroforestry systems are an integral part of Sub-Saharan agricultural landscapes. Studies conducted at tree or plot scales on the supply of ecosystem services (ES) suggest that agroforestry practices are a promising way to build multifunctional agricultural landscapes. However, the current characterization and understanding of how multiple ES are associated across such heterogeneous agricultural landscapes are still limited.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the bacterial viability of the initial biofilm on the surface of experimental modified dental resin composites. Twenty-five healthy individuals with good oral hygiene were included in this study. In a split-mouth design, they received acrylic splints with five experimental composite resin specimens.

Background/objectives: The objective was to assess the relationships between neuropsychological impairments, functional outcome and life satisfaction in a longitudinal study of patients after a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) (PariS-TBI study).

Patients: Out of 243 survivors, 86 were evaluated 8 years post-injury. They did not significantly differ from patients lost-to-follow up except for the latter being more frequently students or unemployed before the injury.

Background: Clinical evaluation of a pressure ulcer is based on quantitative and qualitative evaluation. In clinical practice, acetate tracing is the standard technique used to measure wound surface area; however, it is difficult to use in daily practice (because of material availability, data storage issues, and time needed to calculate the surface area). Planimetry techniques developed with mobile health (mHealth) apps can be used to overcome these difficulties.

Objective: To study the impact of the quality of therapeutic control on fertility and on the prevalence of testicular adrenal rest tumours (TART) in young males with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH).

Design: Combined cross-sectional and retrospective clinical study.

Methods: Twenty-nine patients and age-matched controls underwent clinical investigation, including semen analysis, testicular and adrenal ultrasound imaging, and serum and hair steroid analysis.

Background: Effective topical treatment options for patients with primary axillary hyperhidrosis (PAHH) are limited. A phase I trial showed promising results regarding the efficacy and safety of a topical cream containing glycopyrronium bromide (GPB).

Objectives: To assess the efficacy, safety and tolerability of a 4-week topical treatment of GPB 1% cream in patients with PAHH vs.

Article Synopsis
  • * Participants were assessed at multiple time points (1, 4, and 8 years post-injury), with over half demonstrating improvements in their Glasgow Outcome Scale Extended (GOSE) scores, mood, and cognitive functions between years 4 and 8.
  • * The findings revealed that more years of education were linked to better global functioning, and improvements in mood and reductions in anxiety and depression symptoms were also associated with these positive changes.

Background: The Hyperhidrosis Quality of Life Index (HidroQoL©) is a validated patient-reported outcome measure capturing the quality of life of people affected by hyperhidrosis.

Objectives: We aimed to extend the validity evidence to physician-confirmed diagnosis of primary axillary hyperhidrosis.

Methods: Data from a phase III randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial were used (n = 171).

In eukaryotes, trimethylation of lysine 9 on histone H3 (H3K9) is associated with transcriptional silencing of transposable elements (TEs). In drosophila ovaries, this heterochromatic repressive mark is thought to be deposited by SetDB1 on TE genomic loci after the initial recognition of nascent transcripts by PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) loaded on the Piwi protein. Here, we show that the nucleosome remodeler Mi-2, in complex with its partner MEP-1, forms a subunit that is transiently associated, in a MEP-1 C-terminus-dependent manner, with known Piwi interactors, including a recently reported SUMO ligase, Su(var)2-10.

Background: Few rehabilitation methods have proven their efficacy in increasing sensori-motor recovery and/or function of the upper limb (UL) after stroke. Video games (VGs) are promising tools in this indication.

Objective: To compare UL rehabilitation by using VGs and conventional rehabilitation (CR) in patients with sub-acute stroke.

Despite the strong ecological importance of ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungi, their vertical distribution remains poorly understood. To our knowledge, ECM structures associated with trees have never been reported in depths below 2 meters. In this study, fine roots and ECM root tips were sampled down to 4-m depth during the digging of two independent pits differing by their water availability.

Estimation of usual dietary intake poses a challenge in epidemiological studies. We applied a blended approach that combines the strengths provided by repeated 24-h food lists (24HFLs) and a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). At least two web-based 24HFLs and one FFQ were completed by 821 participants in the KORA FF4 study.

Background: Stroke is a common and debilitating neurological disorder having a negative impact on quality of life.

Objectives: We aimed to compare differences in participation in work and leisure activities between patients with and without a self-reported stroke at the national level in France.

Methods: This study used cross-sectional data from the Disability Health Survey that was administered in people's homes (DHH) in 2008 and in institutions (DHI) in 2009.

People with traumatic brain injury are frequently involved in a litigation because another person was at fault for causing the accident. A compensation amount will often be settled to compensate the victim for the past, present, future damages and losses suffered. We report descriptive data about the full and final personal compensation amount and investigated its association with patient's outcomes.

Severe traumatic brain injury is a leading cause of acquired persistent disabilities, and represents an important health and economic burden. However, the determinants of long-term outcome have rarely been systematically studied in a prospective longitudinal study of a homogeneous group of patients suffering exclusively from severe TBI Prospective observational study of an inception cohort of adult patients with severe traumatic brain injury in the Parisian area (PariS-TBI). Outcome was assessed with face-to-face interview 8 years after Traumatic Brain Injury, focusing on impairments, activity limitations, and participation restriction.

Sub-Saharan urban centers have to tackle high population growth, lack of sanitation infrastructures and the need for good quality water resources. To characterize the impacts of anthropization on the water resources of the capital of Cameroon (Yaoundé), a multi-disciplinary approach was used in ten sub-watersheds (peri-urban and urban) of the Méfou watershed. Pharmaceutical residues were used as tracers of surface and groundwater contamination caused by the release of domestic wastewater from pit latrines and landfills.

Although human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) expression is a growing subject of interest, no study focused before on specific endogenous retroviruses loci activation in severely injured patients. Yet, HERV reactivation is observed in immunity compromised settings like some cancers and auto-immune diseases. Our objective was to assess the transcriptional modulation of HERVs in burn, trauma and septic shock patients.

Objective: In traumatic brain injury (TBI), differences in health-care contexts have profound effects on care pathways. Objectives were to compare TBI pathways of care and practitioners' views on quality of care issues in two large European areas: Varsinais-Suomi, Finland and Ile-de-France, France.

Methods: Thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews was conducted with TBI practitioners (n = 10) from all stages of TBI care.
