The treatment of bacterial infections is hindered by the presence of biofilms and metabolically inactive persisters. Here, we report the synthesis of an enantiomeric block co-beta-peptide, poly(amido-D-glucose)-block-poly(beta-L-lysine), with high yield and purity by one-shot one-pot anionic-ring opening (co)polymerization. The co-beta-peptide is bactericidal against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), including replicating, biofilm and persister bacterial cells, and also disperses biofilm biomass.

Materials & Methods: and antimicrobial activities were conducted to study the anticandidal activities of nanocapsules (NCs).
Results: The NCs showed good anticandidal activities.
Lactoferrin has been known to have antimicrobial properties. This research was conducted to investigate the toxicity of Alginate/EUDRAGIT S 100-enclosed chitosan-calcium phosphate-loaded Fe-bLf nanocapsules (NCs) by in vitro and in vivo assays. Brine shrimp lethality assay showed that the LC value of NCs was more than 1mg/mL which indicated that NCs was not toxic to Brine shrimp.

Background And Objectives: Fibrosis is a major cause of kidney allograft injury. Currently, the only means of assessing allograft fibrosis is by biopsy, an invasive procedure that samples <1% of the kidney. We examined whether magnetic resonance elastography, an imaging-based measure of organ stiffness, could noninvasively estimate allograft fibrosis and predict progression of allograft dysfunction.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA major reason for poor long-term kidney transplant outcomes is the development of chronic allograft injury, characterized by interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy. Currently, an invasive biopsy that samples only <1% of the kidney is the gold standard for detecting kidney allograft fibrosis. We report the use of magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) to quantify tissue stiffness as a noninvasive and whole-kidney measurement tool of allograft fibrosis in a kidney transplant patient at 2 time points.

Unfortunately, it is usually followed by allograft nephrectomy within a few days if rapid allograft recovery does not ensue. We report a case of acute RVT in which nephrectomy was not performed despite a prolonged requirement for dialysis post-thrombectomy, but with recovery of renal function 2 weeks later.

ITG has been associated with underlying lymphoproliferative disorders and any renal impairment may be reversible with treatment of the concomitant hematologic malignancy. This case is the first reported in literature where diffuse large B cell lymphoma developed two years following the initial ITG diagnosis.

We tested 10 inbred strains of mice for their response to azoxymethane/dextran sulfate sodium-induced CA-CRC and identified a bimodal inter-strain distribution pattern when tumor multiplicity was used as a phenotypic marker of susceptibility. The FVB/NJ strain was particularly susceptible showing a higher tumor burden than any other susceptible strains (12.

These factors force the search for new antifungal agents from natural resources. Cassia spectabilis had been traditionally employed by healers for many generations.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA failure of a cell to self destruct has long been associated with cancer progression and development. The fact that tumour cells may not instigate cell arrest or activate cell death mechanisms upon cancer drug delivery is a major concern. Autophagy is a mechanism whereby cell material can be engulfed and digested while apoptosis is a self-killing mechanism, both capable of hindering multiplication after cell injury.

Radiotherapy plays an essential primary role in cancer patients. Regardless of its significant advances in treatment options, tumor recurrence and radio-resistance in cancer cells still occur in a high percentage of patients. Furthermore, the over expression of miRNAs accompanies the development of radio-resistant cancer cells.

We describe a unique case of a renal transplant recipient who developed rapid-onset nephrotic-range proteinuria and acute kidney injury secondary to C4d negative acute TG. Two courses of intravenous Rituximab resulted in significant improvement in proteinuria and allograft function.

Accordingly, miRNAs control numerous cancer-relevant biological events such as cell proliferation, cell cycle control, metabolism and apoptosis. In this review, we summarize the current knowledge and concepts concerning the biogenesis of miRNAs, miRNA roles in cancer and their potential as biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and prognosis including the regulation of key cancer-related pathways, such as cell cycle control and miRNA dysregulation.

We compared the effects of ventilation strategies and underlying conditions on the development of AKI.
Methods: Spraque Dawley rats were challenged by intratracheal acid instillation or 24 h of abdominal sepsis, followed by MV with a low tidal volume (LVT) and 5 cm H2O positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) or a high tidal volume (HVT) and no PEEP, which is known to cause more lung injury after acid instillation than in sepsis.
For years researchers have exerted every effort to improve the influential roles of microRNA (miRNA) in regulating genes that direct mammalian cell development and function. In spite of numerous advancements, many facets of miRNA generation remain unresolved due to the perplexing regulatory networks. The biogenesis of miRNA, eminently endures as a mystery as no universal pathway defines or explicates the variegation in the rise of miRNAs.
