Purpose: Cholecystitis presents significant treatment challenges, especially in elderly patients with high surgical or anesthetic risks. While cholecystectomy remains the standard intervention, its feasibility is sometimes limited, leading to reliance on cholecystostomy, which has a high recurrence rate and does not address the underlying cause. The aim was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of chemical gallbladder ablation as a minimally invasive treatment option for acute cholecystitis in elderly and comorbid patients.

Patch-free streaming contrast-rebalanced dichoptic cartoons versus patching for treatment of amblyopia in children aged 3 to 5 years: a pilot, randomized clinical trial.

Background: We developed and tested a dichoptic treatment designed for younger children that can be viewed freely and involves a dichoptic manipulation of a popular animation series that enables contrast-rebalancing without disrupting fusion. Our aim was to assess whether this novel amblyopia treatment is superior to patching in children aged 3-5 years.

Methods: A total of 34 children with amblyopia were randomly assigned to contrast-rebalanced dichoptic cartoons (4 hours/week) or patching (14 hours/week) for 2 weeks.

Antibiotic resistance is one of the major concerns in veterinary and human medicine and poses a considerable threat to both human and animal health. It has been shown that over- or misuse of antibiotics is one of the primary drivers of antibiotic resistance. To develop the surveillance of antibiotic use, Switzerland introduced the "Informationssystem Antibiotika in der Veterinärmedizin" (IS ABV) in 2019, mandating electronic registration of antibiotic prescriptions by all veterinarians in Switzerland.

Procedure for a standardized preparation of skin prick test solutions for the diagnosis of occupational type I allergies in the absence of commercial extracts.

In order to ensure valid diagnostics for occupational test allergen solutions despite the ongoing reduction in the availability of commercial test extracts, a plan B was initiated for the possible production of skin prick test (SPT) solutions in public pharmacies. For important occupational allergen sources (wheat and rye, storage mites, animal epithelia, mold material) laboratory extraction methods were analyzed in comparison to pharmacy compatible extraction methods regarding protein quantity and quality in SDS-PAGE combined with silver staining. Subsequently, using the example of bovine epithelia, adapted extraction procedures as well as in-process and final product controls were transferred to a public pharmacy.

Antegrade embolization of varicocele with cyanoacrylate glue: a case report.

Background: Varicocele embolization is an effective, minimally invasive treatment option, with a symptom improvement rate of around 90%. However, anatomical variations and post-embolization recurrences pose challenges to its efficacy. This article discusses the antegrade embolization technique as a viable alternative for cases in which retrograde embolization fails, offering a broader spectrum of treatment options for varicocele.

Ocular Biometric Components in Hyperopic Children and a Machine Learning-Based Model to Predict Axial Length.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the development of optical biometric components in children with hyperopia, and apply a machine-learning model to predict axial length.

Methods: Children with hyperopia (+1 diopters [D] to +10 D) in 3 age groups: 3 to 5 years (n = 74), 6 to 8 years (n = 102), and 9 to 11 years (n = 36) were included. Axial length, anterior chamber depth, lens thickness, central corneal thickness, and corneal power were measured; all participants had cycloplegic refraction within 6 months.

Introduction: Urethral stricture is a common, albeit complex, condition that predominantly affects men. The aim of this study was to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the Patient-Reported Outcome Measure questionnaire for patients undergoing urethroplasty (USS-PROM) into Brazilian Portuguese using validated psychometric criteria.

Materials And Methods: The process involved translating and culturally adapting the original USS-PROM into Brazilian Portuguese (USS-PROMbr), synthesizing, back-translating, cross-culturally adapting, and analyzing the pre-final version with experts from our committee.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess motion-defined form perception, including the association with clinical and sensory factors that may drive performance, in each eye of children with deprivation amblyopia due to unilateral cataract.

Methods: Coherence thresholds for orientation discrimination of motion-defined form were measured using a staircase procedure in 30 children with deprivation amblyopia and 59 age-matched controls. Visual acuity, stereoacuity, fusion, and interocular suppression were also measured.

Slow Binocular Reading in Amblyopic Children Is a Fellow Eye Deficit.

Significance: Amblyopic children read 25% slower than their peers during binocular silent reading.

Purpose: We compared binocular reading to fellow eye reading to determine whether slow reading in amblyopic children is due to binocular inhibition; that is, the amblyopic eye is interfering during binocular reading.

Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 38 children with amblyopia and 36 age-similar control children who completed grades 1 to 6 were enrolled.

Synergizing liver systemic treatments with interventional oncology: friend or foe?

Interventional radiology techniques provide excellent local tumor control for small tumors in various organs, but several limitations can hamper the oncological outcomes such as the tumor size or the number of lesions. Technical improvements, optimal patient selection and combination with systemic therapies, including immune checkpoint inhibitors, have been successfully developed to overcome these barriers.In this setting, chemotherapy and targeted therapies aim to diminish the tumor burden in addition to local treatments, while immunotherapies may have a synergistic effect in terms of mechanism of action on the tumor cell as well as the immune environment, with multiple treatment combinations being available.
