Non-Hispanic Black (Black) and Hispanic/Latino (Latino) populations face an increased risk of COVID-19 infection, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19 relative to non-Hispanic White (White) populations. When COVID-19 vaccines became available in December 2020, Black and Latino adults were less likely than White adults to get vaccinated due to factors such as racial discrimination and structural barriers to uptake. In April 2021, the U.

This study examined the relationship between recalled exposure to the COVID-19 Public Education Campaign (the Campaign) and COVID-19 vaccine confidence (the likelihood of vaccination or vaccine uptake) in the general population, including vaccine-hesitant adults (the "Movable Middle"). Analyses used three waves of a triannual, nationally representative panel survey of adults in the U.S.

Background: Over 1 million people in the United States have died of COVID-19. In response to this public health crisis, the US Department of Health and Human Services launched the We Can Do This public education campaign in April 2021 to increase vaccine confidence. The campaign uses a mix of digital, television, print, radio, and out-of-home channels to reach target audiences.

Importance: Every year during the open enrollment period, hundreds of thousands of individuals across the Affordable Care Act marketplaces begin the enrollment process but fail to complete it, thereby resulting in coverage gaps or going uninsured.

Objective: To investigate if low-cost ($0.55 per person) letters can increase health insurance enrollment.

The novel coronavirus-2019 (COVID-19) has caused a global pandemic of historical proportions, infecting millions of people worldwide. Due to its high mortality rate and a paucity of clinical data, experimental therapies have been utilized with uncertain success and, unfortunately, poor outcomes. We describe a gentleman who was treated with experimental therapies and subsequently developed cytomegalovirus colitis and hypovolemic shock.

Objectives: To assess the reliability, precision and differences between scores produced using the standard 36″ start position and 3 modified start positions of the Closed Kinetic Chain Upper Extremity Stability Test (CKCUEST), towards normalisation to the individual.

Design: RCT of 4 conditions.

Setting: Clinical.

Background: Tumor necrosis factor-α antagonists (anti-TNF-α) have been associated with drug-induced liver injury. However, cases of anti-TNF-α-associated acute liver failure have only been rarely reported.

Aims: To identify cases of anti-TNF-α-associated acute liver failure and evaluate patterns of liver injury and common characteristics to the cases.

In two experiments, male and female Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) to assess the effect PCBs, an estrogenic endocrine disrupting chemical (EEDC), would have on the voluntary consumption of alcohol. There are several EEDCs in our food that are known to increase estrogen in adolescent females. Our objective was to assess the effect that increasing estrogen, by adding the EEDC PCBs would have on volitional intake of alcohol.

Background And Study Aim:  Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) is limited by reliance on bowel motility for propulsion, and lack of physical activity has been proposed as a cause of incomplete studies. Our aim was to prospectively investigate the association between physical activity and VCE bowel transit.

Patients And Methods:  Ambulatory outpatients receiving VCE were eligible for the study.

Aim: To study mortality, length of stay, and total charges in morbidly obese adults during index hospitalization for orthotopic liver transplantation.

Methods: The Nationwide Inpatient Sample was queried to obtain demographics, healthcare utilization, post orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) complications, and short term outcomes of OLT performed from 2003 to 2011 ( = 46509). We divided patients into those with [body mass index (BMI) ≥ 40] and without (BMI < 40) morbid obesity.

Organ preservation remains an important contributing factor to graft and patient outcomes. During donor organ procurement and transportation, cellular injury is mitigated through the use of preservation solutions in conjunction with hypothermia. Various preservation solutions and protocols exist with widespread variability among transplant centers.

Rationale And Objectives: Heroin addiction is a significant health and societal problem for which there is no highly effective long-term behavioral or pharmacological treatment. Therefore, strategies that support heroin abstinence should be a primary focus of heroin treatment research. To this end, the current study used an animal conflict model that captures the aversive consequences of drug seeking (as are typical in humans, e.

In this work, we present the Genome Modeling System (GMS), an analysis information management system capable of executing automated genome analysis pipelines at a massive scale. The GMS framework provides detailed tracking of samples and data coupled with reliable and repeatable analysis pipelines. The GMS also serves as a platform for bioinformatics development, allowing a large team to collaborate on data analysis, or an individual researcher to leverage the work of others effectively within its data management system.

Hypothermic preservation of donor grafts is imperative to ameliorate ischemia related cellular damage prior to organ transplantation. Numerous solutions are in existence with widespread variability among transplant centers as to a consensus regarding the optimal preservation solution. Here, we present a concise review of pertinent preservation studies involving cardiac and pulmonary allografts in an attempt to minimize the variability among institutions and potentially improve graft and patient survival.

A 48-year-old man with cirrhosis secondary to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and chronic hepatitis C infection underwent a successful orthotopic liver transplant from a B+ donor without intraoperative complications. His postoperative course was complicated by hemolytic anemia, and he was ultimately diagnosed as having passenger lymphocyte syndrome. Passenger lymphocyte syndrome is a complication of both solid-organ and stem cell transplants.

Background And Rationale: An enormous amount of resources has been devoted to the development of pharmacotherapies for drug addiction, with relatively little or no long-term success reported. The current review argues that a successful drug addiction treatment program will likely be one that focuses on both the neural mechanisms and the environmental contingencies that mediate drug use. Further, because the neural mechanisms and environmental factors that support abstinence in humans are similar in laboratory animals, several animal models of abstinence and relapse have been developed.

The development of socially-ranked societies has been associated with disparities in human health in a variety of settings. The unique context of the Arras culture of East Yorkshire, Northern England, provides an excellent opportunity to explore how health and well-being may have varied in relation to social factors in Iron Age Britain. Bioarcheological data were collected from two Middle Iron Age (400-100BC) cemeteries, Rudston (N=164) and Burton Fleming (N=56), from the East Yorkshire region of Britain.

Rationale And Objectives: Most animal research on drug relapse involves the reinstatement model where abstinence is a result of drug removal (extinction). However, abstinence in humans often results from the aversive consequences that accompany drug seeking (conflict situation). This study was aimed at using a conflict-based animal model of abstinence/relapse in rats self-administering heroin or cocaine.

Unlabelled: A 57-year-old male with a history of hypertension presented with shortness of breath, intermittent substernal chest pain, subjective fevers, and a 30-pound weight loss. He was found to have a bladder mass four months prior to presentation, for which he underwent cystoscopy and surgical removal. Pathology demonstrated high-grade superficial plasmacytoid urothelial carcinoma extending into the submucosa but not the muscularis propria.
