Background: Studies demonstrating the positive impact of body contouring on sustained weight loss in bariatric patients describe a narrow cohort. The authors sought to evaluate the impact of postbariatric body contouring procedures on sustained weight loss in minority race patients.

Methods: A retrospective review of bariatric surgery patients at a single institution was performed.

Background: Patients undergoing autologous breast reconstruction have higher rates of patient-reported satisfaction compared to patients undergoing prosthetic reconstruction. Obesity has been shown to increase postoperative complications in both microsurgical and implant reconstructions. The authors evaluated the effects of microsurgical breast reconstruction and prosthetic breast reconstruction on patient-reported outcomes and quality of life in obese patients.

Background:  The pectoralis major muscle flap is a versatile reconstructive option for deep sternal wound infections (DSWI). The timing and surgical technique of bilateral pectoralis major muscle advancement flaps versus unilateral pectoralis major muscle turnover and unilateral pectoralis major muscle advancement flap on patient outcomes remain to be elucidated. The purpose of this investigation was to compare timing, immediate versus delayed reconstruction, and the surgical technique in patients with deep sternal wounds infections on patient outcomes.

Background:  Delayed immediate (DI) autologous breast reconstruction consists of immediate postmastectomy tissue expander placement, radiation therapy, and subsequent autologous reconstruction. The decision between timing of reconstructive methods is challenging and remains to be elucidated. We aim to compare patient reported outcomes and quality of life between delayed and DI reconstruction.

Case Presentation: A pregnant woman at 22+5/7weeks gestation presented to the emergency department (ED) from an outpatient clinic, hypotensive after experiencing a syncopal episode. On arrival to the ER she was tachycardic, tachypneic and complaining of abdominal pain. A bedside FAST was performed and noted free fluid in the abdomen.

Objective: Wound complications after midline sternotomy result in significant morbidity and mortality. Despite many known risk factors, the influence of sternal asymmetry has largely been ignored. The purpose of this study was to assess the utility of 3-dimensional computed tomographic scan reconstructions to assess sternal asymmetry and determine its relationship with sternal wound infection.

Background: Systematic reviews frequently form the basis for clinical decision making and guideline development. Yet, the quality of systematic reviews has been variable, thus raising concerns about the validity of their conclusions. In the current study, a quality analysis of systematic reviews was performed, addressing microsurgical head and neck reconstruction.

Fat/water separation methods such as fluctuating equilibrium magnetic resonance and linear combination steady-state free precession have not yet been successfully implemented at 3.0 T due to extreme limitations on the time available for spatial encoding with the increase in magnetic field strength. We present a method to utilize a three-dimensional radial sequence combined with linear combination steady-state free precession at 3.
