Objectives: Limited data exists on attitudes and practices of young men in tertiary institutions towards contraception. This study assesses attitudes and practices regarding contraception among male students in a tertiary educational institution in northwestern Nigeria, identifying factors influencing these attitudes.

Methods: This cross-sectional study conducted from July to August 2021 at Kaduna Polytechnic, Nigeria, involved 160 male students chosen via multistage sampling.

Here, we use iPSC-derived cardiovascular progenitor cells (CVPCs) to model the response to interferon gamma (IFN-γ) during myocarditis. We generate RNA-seq and ATAC-seq for four CVPCs that were treated with IFN-γ and compare them with paired untreated controls.

Indian adolescents' perceptions of anaemia and its preventive measures: Aqualitative study.

High prevalence of anaemia is a severe public health problem in several low- and middle-income countries like India. A qualitative inquiry was designed to understand the perceptions of adolescents regarding anaemia and anaemia prevention measures. Convenience sampling was employed to recruit 39 adolescents (19 girls; 20 boys) from Tikari, India.

Here, we show that the ribosome-associated complex (RAC)/Ssb chaperone system, composed of the HSP70 chaperone Ssb and its HSP40 co-chaperone Zuo1, is required to maintain proteostasis and cell viability under TORC1 inhibition in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

A Protein-Protein Interaction Analysis Suggests a Wide Range of New Functions for the p21-Activated Kinase (PAK) Ste20.

The p21-activated kinases (PAKs) are important signaling proteins. They contribute to a surprisingly wide range of cellular processes and play critical roles in a number of human diseases including cancer, neurological disorders and cardiac diseases. To get a better understanding of PAK functions, mechanisms and integration of various cellular activities, we screened for proteins that bind to the budding yeast PAK Ste20 as an example, using the split-ubiquitin technique.

Knowledge and perception of medication errors among health care workers in Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital Zaria, Kaduna State, North-west Nigeria.

Introduction: Medication errors (MEs) are important, often overlooked forms of medical error that are associated with morbidity and mortality in health care settings. Among health care workers, knowledge, attitude and perception may affect reporting of MEs.

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the level of knowledge and perception of MEs among health care workers in Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria.

The Need for Continuum of Care in Control of Hypertension in Primary Health-care Setting.

The hypertension care continuum is a public health model that outlines the steps or stages that people with hypertension go through from diagnosis to achieving and maintaining blood pressure (BP) under control through care and treatment. Despite diagnosis being straightforward and treatments widely available and relatively inexpensive, there are significant gaps in delivery at the level of awareness, treatment, adherence, and control of hypertension. This article reviews the correlates of client acquisition and retention at the primary care level for hypertension management along the continuum of care context of the public health system in India.

Phenotypic Characterisation of Staphylococcus aureus Isolated from Patients in Healthcare Institutions in Zaria Metropolis, Kaduna State, Nigeria.

Background: Staphylococcus aureus is a cosmopolitan and pathogenic microorganism associated with various diseases spectra and antimicrobial resistance of public health importance.

Aim: This study determined the phenotypic characteristics of S. aureus isolated from patients in healthcare institutions in Zaria metropolis.

Intensive hands-on microsurgery course provides a solid foundation for performing clinical microvascular surgery.

Purpose: Microvascular surgery requires highly specialized and individualized training; most surgical residency training programs are not equipped with microsurgery teaching expertise and/or facilities. The aim of this manuscript was to describe the methodology and clinical effectiveness of an international microsurgery course, currently taught year-round in eight countries.

Methods: In the 5-day microsurgery course trainees perform arterial and venous end-to-end, end-to-side, one-way-up, and continuous suture anastomoses and vein graft techniques in live animals, supported by video demonstrations and hands-on guidance by a full-time instructor.

Implementation of infection prevention and control practices in an upcoming COVID-19 hospital in India: An opportunity not missed.

Infection prevention and control (IPC) program is obligatory for delivering quality services in any healthcare setup. Lack of administrative support and resource-constraints (under-staffing, inadequate funds) were primary barriers to successful implementation of IPC practices in majority of the hospitals in the developing countries. The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) brought a unique opportunity to improve the IPC program in these hospitals.

Background: Domestic violence is a global issue of public health concern with detrimental effects on women's physical, mental and social well-being. There is a paucity of community-based studies assessing the knowledge and attitude of women towards domestic violence in Nigeria.

Recent progress in microbial fuel cells for industrial effluent treatment and energy generation: Fundamentals to scale-up application and challenges.

Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) technology have the potential to decarbonize electricity generation and offer an eco-friendly route for treating a wide range of industrial effluents from power generation, petrochemical, tannery, brewery, dairy, textile, pulp/paper industries, and agro-industries. Despite successful laboratory-scale studies, several obstacles limit the MFC technology for real-world applications. This review article aimed to discuss the most recent state-of-the-art information on MFC architecture, design, components, electrode materials, and anodic exoelectrogens to enhance MFC performance and reduce cost.

Unusual location of osteochondroma in the temporal region in a patient with functional pituitary adenoma.

Osteochondromas are common in the long bones and relatively rare in the head and neck regions. We herein report a case of a solitary temporal bone osteochondroma associated with a functional pituitary adenoma hypersecreting prolactin. The patient was a 48-year-old man with progressive, painless temporal swelling associated with gradual visual loss, gynaecomastia, erectile dysfunction, and loss of libido.

Comparing Antenatal and Delivery Care Services in Public and Private Health Facilities: Evidence from 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey.

Background: There have been calls for privatisation of public health facilities to improve quality of care received. The study compared antenatal and delivery services received in public and private health facilities in Nigeria.

Methods: The study was based on 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey data collected from women aged 15-49 years, concerning their pregnancy and delivery.

Ste20 and Cla4 modulate the expression of the glycerol biosynthesis enzyme Gpd1 by a novel MAPK-independent pathway.

p21-activated kinases (PAKs) are important signalling molecules with a wide range of functions. In budding yeast, the main PAKs Ste20 and Cla4 regulate the response to hyperosmotic stress, which is an excellent model for the adaptation to changing environmental conditions. In this pathway, the only known function of Ste20 and Cla4 is the activation of a mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade through Ste11.
