Objectives: Limited data exists on attitudes and practices of young men in tertiary institutions towards contraception. This study assesses attitudes and practices regarding contraception among male students in a tertiary educational institution in northwestern Nigeria, identifying factors influencing these attitudes.
Methods: This cross-sectional study conducted from July to August 2021 at Kaduna Polytechnic, Nigeria, involved 160 male students chosen via multistage sampling.
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic syndrome characterized by hyperglycaemia, polydipsia, polyuria, and weight loss, among others. The pathophysiology for the disorders is complex and results in pancreatic abnormal function. Viruses have also been implicated in the metabolic syndrome.

Physiologists may play critical roles in the development of clinician-scientists who aspire to an academic career. The complexity of contemporary biomedical science and economic matters regarding postgraduate education pose real conundrums. We report a more than 22-year follow-up of surgical trainees pursuing bench laboratory science experience through a collaboration between a physiology postgraduate program and a surgical researcher program within a single public medical school.

Here, we use iPSC-derived cardiovascular progenitor cells (CVPCs) to model the response to interferon gamma (IFN-γ) during myocarditis. We generate RNA-seq and ATAC-seq for four CVPCs that were treated with IFN-γ and compare them with paired untreated controls.

A qualitative inquiry was designed to understand the perceptions of adolescents regarding anaemia and anaemia prevention measures. Convenience sampling was employed to recruit 39 adolescents (19 girls; 20 boys) from Tikari, India.

Increased translation of proteasome assembly chaperones (PACs) is critical for increasing proteasome assembly and cell degradative capacity. The endocytic protein Ede1 recruits PAC mRNA to cortical actin patches in for translation upon stress.

Upon TORC1 inhibition, protein degradation is increased and protein synthesis is reduced through inhibition of translation initiation to maintain cell viability. Here, we show that the ribosome-associated complex (RAC)/Ssb chaperone system, composed of the HSP70 chaperone Ssb and its HSP40 co-chaperone Zuo1, is required to maintain proteostasis and cell viability under TORC1 inhibition in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

They contribute to a surprisingly wide range of cellular processes and play critical roles in a number of human diseases including cancer, neurological disorders and cardiac diseases. To get a better understanding of PAK functions, mechanisms and integration of various cellular activities, we screened for proteins that bind to the budding yeast PAK Ste20 as an example, using the split-ubiquitin technique.

Introduction: Medication errors (MEs) are important, often overlooked forms of medical error that are associated with morbidity and mortality in health care settings. Among health care workers, knowledge, attitude and perception may affect reporting of MEs.
Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the level of knowledge and perception of MEs among health care workers in Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria.
The hypertension care continuum is a public health model that outlines the steps or stages that people with hypertension go through from diagnosis to achieving and maintaining blood pressure (BP) under control through care and treatment. Despite diagnosis being straightforward and treatments widely available and relatively inexpensive, there are significant gaps in delivery at the level of awareness, treatment, adherence, and control of hypertension. This article reviews the correlates of client acquisition and retention at the primary care level for hypertension management along the continuum of care context of the public health system in India.

Aim: This study determined the phenotypic characteristics of S. aureus isolated from patients in healthcare institutions in Zaria metropolis.
Purpose: Microvascular surgery requires highly specialized and individualized training; most surgical residency training programs are not equipped with microsurgery teaching expertise and/or facilities. The aim of this manuscript was to describe the methodology and clinical effectiveness of an international microsurgery course, currently taught year-round in eight countries.
Methods: In the 5-day microsurgery course trainees perform arterial and venous end-to-end, end-to-side, one-way-up, and continuous suture anastomoses and vein graft techniques in live animals, supported by video demonstrations and hands-on guidance by a full-time instructor.
Infection prevention and control (IPC) program is obligatory for delivering quality services in any healthcare setup. Lack of administrative support and resource-constraints (under-staffing, inadequate funds) were primary barriers to successful implementation of IPC practices in majority of the hospitals in the developing countries. The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) brought a unique opportunity to improve the IPC program in these hospitals.

There is a paucity of community-based studies assessing the knowledge and attitude of women towards domestic violence in Nigeria.
Objective: To assess knowledge, attitudes, prevalence and associated factors of domestic violence among women in a community in Kaduna, Nigeria.
Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) technology have the potential to decarbonize electricity generation and offer an eco-friendly route for treating a wide range of industrial effluents from power generation, petrochemical, tannery, brewery, dairy, textile, pulp/paper industries, and agro-industries. Despite successful laboratory-scale studies, several obstacles limit the MFC technology for real-world applications. This review article aimed to discuss the most recent state-of-the-art information on MFC architecture, design, components, electrode materials, and anodic exoelectrogens to enhance MFC performance and reduce cost.

p21-activated kinases (PAKs) are important signalling molecules with a wide range of functions. In budding yeast, the main PAKs Ste20 and Cla4 regulate the response to hyperosmotic stress, which is an excellent model for the adaptation to changing environmental conditions. In this pathway, the only known function of Ste20 and Cla4 is the activation of a mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade through Ste11.
