This gap in the literature is significant, given that neuropsychology is a specialty field faced with vulnerabilities to sexual harassment, and neuropsychologists may weigh unique factors into their decision-making of whether and/or when to respond. We report the first inorganic/organic hybrids that show outstanding mechanical properties (withstanding cyclic loading) and bone bioactivity. This new hybrid material may fulfil the unmet clinical need for bioactive synthetic bone grafts that can withstand cyclic loading. A SiO/PTHF/PCL-diCOOH sol-gel hybrid system, that combined inorganic and organic conetworks at the molecular level, previously demonstrated unprecedented synergy of properties, with excellent flexibility and promoted formation of articular cartilage matrix .

Monoalkylated derivatives of the unusually polar all-cis 2,3,4,5,6- pentafluorocyclohexyl (Janus face) motif are prepared starting from an aryl hydrogenation of 2,3,4,5,6- pentafluorophenylacetate methyl ester 15. The method used Zeng's Rh(CAAC) carbene catalyst 4 in the hydrogenation following the protocol developed by Glorius. The resultant Janus pentafluorocyclohexylacetate methyl ester 16 was converted to the corresponding alcohol 18, aldehyde 13, bromide 29 and azide 14 through functional group manipulations, and some of these building blocks were used in Ugi-multicomponent and Cu-catalysed click reactions.

This study uses X-ray crystallography, theory and Langmuir isotherm analysis to explore the conformations and molecular packing of alkyl all- 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorocyclohexyl motifs, which are prepared by direct aryl hydrogenations from alkyl- or vinyl-pentafluoroaryl benzenes. Favoured conformations retain the more polar triaxial C-F bond arrangement of the all- 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorocyclohexyl ring systems with the alkyl substituent adopting an equatorial orientation, and accommodating strong supramolecular interactions between rings. Langmuir isotherm analysis on a water subphase of a long chain fatty acid and alcohol carrying terminal all- 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorocyclohexyl rings do not show any indication of monolayer assembly relative to their cyclohexane analogues, instead the molecules appear to aggregate and form higher molecular assemblies prior to compression.

An electrospinning technique was used to produce three-dimensional (3D) bioactive glass fibrous scaffolds, in the SiO-CaO sol-gel system, for wound healing applications. Previously, it was thought that 3D cotton wool-like structures could only be produced from sol-gel when the sol contained calcium nitrate, implying that the Ca and its electronic charge had a significant effect on the structure produced. Here, fibres with a 3D appearance were also electrospun from compositions containing only silica.

Background/aims: T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is an uncommon, aggressive malignancy that rarely presents in the skin and is generally not considered as part of the differential diagnosis by dermatologists and dermatopathologists. We describe an unusual case of T-ALL presenting with folliculocentric, erythematous papules on the face, histologically resembling mycosis fungoides (MF). Immunostaining for terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) was positive in tumor cells, supporting the diagnosis of cutaneous involvement by T-ALL.

In this numerical study, a new type of serpentine micromixer involving mixing units with a non-rectangular cross-section is investigated. Similar to other serpentine/spiral shaped micromixers, the design exploits the formation of transversal vortices (Dean flows) in pressure-driven systems, associated with the centrifugal forces experienced by the fluid as it is confined to move along curved geometries. In contrast with other previous designs, though, the use of non-rectangular cross-sections that change orientation between mixing units is exploited to control the center of rotation of the transversal flows formed.

Thin films of AlN doped with chromium were deposited on flat Si (100) substrates and optical fibers by rf magnetron sputtering, using 100-200 W rf power and 5-8 mTorr nitrogen. The thickness of the films on the flat silicon substrate was 400 nm and on optical fibers with 80 mum and smaller diameters was up to 10 mum.
