Association of persistent tachycardia with early myocardial dysfunction in children undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation.

Cancer survivors who have undergone hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) are at risk for myocardial dysfunction. Children who receive allogenic HCT encounter systemic inflammation resulting in tachycardia and hypertension. The effect of these abnormalities on myocardial function is not known.

Aortic clamping for limiting blood loss at cesarean hysterectomy for placenta percreta: A case series.

Objective: In women with placenta percreta, cesarean hysterectomy is associated with massive blood loss during dissection of bladder from lower uterine segment. We studied the safety and effectiveness of temporary aortic clamping as a method of limiting blood loss at cesarean hysterectomy in women with placenta percreta.

Methods: This was a retrospective case series of 15 women with placenta percreta who underwent cesarean section with total hysterectomy at KEM Hospital, Pune, India, with a technique of temporary clamping of the infra-renal aorta for reducing blood loss during hysterectomy.

Aims: Survivors of out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) may suffer from long-term cognitive, psychological, or physical post-arrest consequences impacting and disrupting daily life. Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty in phakic eyes is challenging, considering presence of posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens (IOL), decreasing the space available in anterior chamber to manoeuvre the graft. Need of inferior peripheral iridotomy in presence of central hole technology in ICL depends on the dynamics of full chamber air bubble.

Selection of nitrogen responsive root architectural traits in spinach using machine learning and genetic correlations.

The efficient acquisition and transport of nutrients by plants largely depend on the root architecture. Due to the absence of complex microbial network interactions and soil heterogeneity in a restricted soilless medium, the architecture of roots is a function of genetics defined by the soilless matrix and exogenously supplied nutrients such as nitrogen (N). The knowledge of root trait combinations that offer the optimal nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) is far from being conclusive.

Establishment of a Pediatric Ovarian and Testicular Cryopreservation Program for Malignant and Non-Malignant Conditions: The Mayo Clinic Experience.

Study Objectives: To describe the structure of a pediatric fertility preservation (FP) program and to share safety and patient satisfaction data.

Design: The FP program operates under prospective research protocols approved by the Mayo Clinic Institutional Review Board (IRB).

Setting: The FP program is a multidisciplinary effort between pediatric gynecology, reproductive endocrinology, pediatric urology, pediatric surgery, and laboratory medicine.

Are survivors of cardiac arrest provided with standard cardiac rehabilitation? - Results from a national survey of hospitals and municipalities in Denmark.

Aim: To quantify the provision of standard cardiac rehabilitation to Danish survivors of cardiac arrest at a programme level, and to analyse whether organizational factors influenced the provision.

Method: We mapped the provision of cardiac rehabilitation core components to survivors of cardiac arrest and compared this with a reference group of patients after acute myocardial infarction using data from a cross-sectional programme-level survey among all hospitals (n = 34) and municipalities (n = 98) in Denmark. Organizational factors of potential importance to service provision were considered: health care region, size of catchment area/population, type of department/municipality and socioeconomic index.

Insights into co-amorphous systems in therapeutic drug delivery.

Co-amorphous (CAM) systems are promising drug-delivery systems in the arena of therapeutic drug delivery, addressing the poor aqueous solubility of drugs by enhancing solubility and thereby improving the oral bioavailability and therapeutic effect of the drug. A CAM system is a single-phase homogeneous blend of two or more low molecular weight molecules that can be drug-drug or drug-co-former, stabilized via intermolecular interactions, adding the benefit of thermodynamic stability. This review covers the fundamentals of CAM systems and recent advances in formulation development.

Sickle cell disease and ventricular myocardial strain: A systematic review.

Cardiac disease is the primary cause of death in sickle cell disease (SCD). Cardiac abnormalities begin in childhood and progress throughout life. Defects in the IFN-γ mediated immunity lead to an increased susceptibility to intracellular pathogens like mycobacteria including attenuated -Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine strains and non-tuberculous environmental mycobacteria (NTM), , fungi, parasites like and some viruses, in otherwise healthy individuals. Mutations in the gene are the commonest genetic defects identified.

Mechanotransduction in gastrointestinal smooth muscle cells: role of mechanosensitive ion channels.

Mechanosensation, the ability to properly sense mechanical stimuli and transduce them into physiologic responses, is an essential determinant of gastrointestinal (GI) function. Abnormalities in this process result in highly prevalent GI functional and motility disorders. In the GI tract, several cell types sense mechanical forces and transduce them into electrical signals, which elicit specific cellular responses.

Feasibility Study of Vascularized Composite Urinary Bladder Allograft Transplantation in a Cadaver Model.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish the feasibility of performing a urinary bladder vascularized composite allograft transplantation for either bladder augmentation or neobladder creation.

Materials And Methods: Six adult cadavers were studied. Cadavers were excluded for any previous pelvic surgery, radiation, vascular surgery or history of pelvic malignancy.
