Obesity is increasingly prevalent among candidates for kidney transplantation. Existing studies have shown conflicting post-transplant outcomes for obese patients which may relate to confounding bias from donor-related characteristics that were unaccounted for. Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the morbidity and graft outcomes of two surgical approaches (staged vs. simultaneous nephrectomy) in patients with Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) undergoing kidney transplantation.
  • - Simultaneous procedures can lead to longer surgeries and increased risk of graft loss, but may eliminate the need for post-transplant dialysis that could arise from staged surgeries.
  • - A systematic literature review was performed, analyzing data from various studies on outcomes like hospitalization length, blood loss, and complications, aiming to determine the more effective surgical approach for these patients.
