: Deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap breast reconstruction is an increasingly popular technique, but controversy exists regarding the optimal use of closed suction drains (CSD) at the abdominal donor site. This narrative review synthesizes current evidence on CSD application, criteria for placement/removal, and complications in DIEP flap procedures. Alternative techniques and implications for postoperative care are also discussed.

The primary aim is to highlight the importance of considering NMDAR encephalitis in the differential diagnosis of young female patients presenting with acute or subacute neuropsychiatric symptoms, especially when accompanied by ovarian teratomas.
Case Description: This case report and literature review detail the presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of a 35-year-old G4P3 Indigenous woman who initially presented with neuropsychiatric symptoms and fever, having a history of extensive drug and alcohol use.
Background And Objectives: Vasovasostomy is a cost-effective procedure for the reversal of vasectomy. A water-tight adequately blood-supplied mucosal anastomosis is required for better outcomes. Previous research has demonstrated that people with mcSCI can voluntarily engage their trunk muscles during different exercise programs that have the potential to improve seated balance control. We also identified 50 normal pelvic ultrasound examinations confirmed by a normal pelvic MRI within 6 months as a control group.

We propose an adaptable framework for analyzing ultrasound (US) images quantitatively to provide computer-aided diagnosis using machine learning. Our preliminary clinical targets are hepatic steatosis, adenomyosis, and craniosynostosis. View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: The purpose of our study was to evaluate the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of ultrasound (US) as compared to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in pregnant patients with suspected appendicitis for visualization of the appendix, accuracy at diagnosing acute appendicitis, the ability of each modality to identify alternate diagnoses of pain and whether gestational age (GA) has an association with appendix identification rates.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the records of 140 pregnant patients with suspected appendicitis to determine the efficacy of US and MRI to identify the appendix, diagnose or exclude acute appendicitis, identify alternative etiologies for clinical presentation, and the affect of GA on identification of the appendix. Imaging results were correlated with surgical pathology in patients who underwent surgery.
From January to December 2008, balloon kyphoplasty was performed on 45 consecutive female patients with primary single-segment vertebral compression fractures as an inpatient procedure. All of the treated vertebral bodies were located within the thora-columbar region (T11-L2). Demographic data such as age, body mass index, fracture age, hospital stay, lumbar spine bone mineral density, and amount of bone cement injected per vertebrae were recorded.
