The prevalence of heart failure (HF) subtypes, which are classified by left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), demonstrate significant sex differences. Here, we perform sex-stratified genome-wide association studies (GWASs) on LVEF and transcriptome-wide Mendelian randomization (MR) on LVEF, all-cause HF, HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), and HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). The sex-stratified GWASs of LVEF identified three sex-specific loci that were exclusively detected in the sex-stratified GWASs.

Methods: Male/female immune-competent adults (aged >21 years) with moderate/severe cheek wrinkles, graded using the Galderma Cheek Wrinkle Scale (GCWS) at rest, were randomized 2:1 to receive PLLA-SCA injections (150 mg; 8 mL reconstitution in sterile water for injection) + 1 mL lidocaine hydrochloride (2%), administered immediately after reconstitution, or no treatment (control). Up to 3 additional treatments were allowed at monthly intervals, and follow-up was at months 7, 9, and 12.

Purpose: Artificial intelligence (AI) in the form of automated machine learning (AutoML) offers a new potential breakthrough to overcome the barrier of entry for non-technically trained physicians. A Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) for screening purposes using AutoML could be beneficial to ease the clinical burden in the radiological workflow for paranasal sinus diseases.
Methods: The main target of this work was the usage of automated evaluation of model performance and the feasibility of the Vertex AI image classification model on the Google Cloud AutoML platform to be trained to automatically classify the presence or absence of sinonasal disease.
The physical properties of the cells and proteins surrounding a tumor play a crucial role in determining the spread of the cancer. How they change cancer cells to suppress the immune response against them is an interesting question addressed in a recent study from Liu et al., which describes how increased stiffness of the tissue around the tumor decreases the amount of a protein—cyclic GMP-AMP synthase—in cancer cells, ultimately blocking the immune response to cancer.

Methemoglobinemia, due to the oxidation of iron from ferrous to ferric form in the haemoglobin molecule, results in decreased oxygen delivery to the tissues. Phenazopyridine, a commonly used medication for urinary symptoms, is a rare cause of methemoglobinemia. We report an elderly woman with advanced vaginal cancer, who developed methemoglobinemia following the use of phenazopyridine at a dose of 200 mg three times a day for 14 days.

Methods: We developed the Rapid Access Memory Program (RAMP) to improve access of neuropsychological services for older adults presenting to our institutional primary care clinics with concerns of cognitive decline. RAMP provides abbreviated neurocognitive assessment, same-day patient feedback, expedited reporting to referring providers, and is financially self-supported.
