Article Synopsis
  • CPFE is a syndrome characterized by the coexistence of upper lobe emphysema and lower lobe pulmonary fibrosis, displaying normal or minimally altered lung volumes but significantly reduced carbon monoxide transfer and exercise hypoxemia.
  • Pulmonary hypertension is common in CPFE patients and is a major factor affecting prognosis.
  • Diagnosis typically relies on high-resolution CT scans, and while smoking is suspected to be a key cause, the exact mechanisms are still unclear, leading to challenges in treatment and diagnosis.
