Helicobacter pylori infection is associated with the development of gastric adenocarcinoma. Upstream stimulatory factors USF1 and USF2 regulate the transcription of genes related to immune response, cell cycle and cell proliferation. A decrease in their expression is observed in human gastric epithelial cells infected with H.

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a common disorder worldwide that produces significant morbi-mortality that could be reduced with proper glycemic control.

Objective: Estimate the prevalence of glycemic control in type-2 diabetic patients and explore its association with personal, clinical and familial factors.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study with 150 type-2 diabetic patients from a chronic diseases program at the Hospital Universitario San Ignacio in Bogota.

Aim: This study compared the shear bond strength (SBS) and flexural strength (FS) of repaired interfaces using three techniques of surface preparation and repair of a micro-hybrid composite.

Methods And Materials: Composite specimens for SBS tests (n=36: diameter=8 mm, thickness=3 mm) for repair were shaped in a metal mold, visible-light cured, and embedded in dental stone. Composite specimens for FS tests (n=36: 2 mm x 2 mm x 12.

Hafnia alvei, a Gram negative bacillus related to the Enterobacteriaceae family, is considered an opportunistic pathogen of several animal species and humans. In this communication, we describe fimbrial-like structures from different strains of H. alvei that cannot be easily ascribed to any of the previously reported fimbrial types in this species (type I or type III).

We report the case of a 28-year-old nulliparous woman who presented at 36 weeks' gestation with preeclampsia: high blood pressure, proteinuria and edema. Serum test results were normal and platelet count was 155 x 10(3)/mm(3). After 30 h the patient initiated severe epigastric pain and vomits, and lab tests presented a slight increase in liver enzymes.

Genetically modified auxotrophic mutants of different fish pathogens have been used as live vaccines in laboratory experiments, but the behavior of the strains after release into aquatic ecosystems has not been characterized. We previously constructed and characterized an aroA mutant of Aeromonas hydrophila and studied the protection afforded by this mutant as a live vaccine in rainbow trout. In this work, we describe the survival of this strain in aquatic microcosms prepared from fish water tanks.
