Hafnia alvei, a Gram negative bacillus related to the Enterobacteriaceae family, is considered an opportunistic pathogen of several animal species and humans. In this communication, we describe fimbrial-like structures from different strains of H. alvei that cannot be easily ascribed to any of the previously reported fimbrial types in this species (type I or type III).

We report the case of a 28-year-old nulliparous woman who presented at 36 weeks' gestation with preeclampsia: high blood pressure, proteinuria and edema. Although Pythium insidiosum was originally the suspected etiologic agent, nothing was done to demonstrate its presence in the infected animals. The objective of this study was to investigate the etiologic agent causing cutaneous lesions in a group of 63 calves diagnosed with EBG.
