Volatile sulphur compounds in people with chronic kidney disease and the impact on quality of life.

The objectives are to identify volatile sulphur compounds (VSCs) in individuals with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and to relate quality of life and oral health. A case-control study with 32 individuals with CKD in haemodialysis in the study group (SG) and 32 healthy individuals in the control group (CG) was performed. The VSCs were identified by gas chromatograph before (BC) and after cysteine (AC) mouthwash and an organoleptic test.

Permanent canine eruption into the alveolar cleft region after secondary alveolar bone grafting: Are there prediction factors for impaction?

Introduction: The aims of this study were to investigate the eruption pattern of maxillary permanent canines in the alveolar cleft area after secondary alveolar bone grafting and to assess the risk indicators for canine impaction.

Methods: The sample consisted of 75 patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate who underwent secondary alveolar bone grafting with rhBMP-2 with a mean age of 9.8 years of age at 1 center.

Efficacy of Ketoprofen With or Without Omeprazole for Pain And Inflammation Control After Third Molar Removal.

In view of the gastrointestinal problems generated by the ketoprofen use, the ketoprofen association with omeprazole is available on the market. However, this association efficacy in acute pain control has not been established. Bilateral extraction of lower third molars in similar positions is currently the most used model for the evaluation and investigation of the efficacy and pharmacological effects of new compounds for the treatment of acute postoperative pain.

Evaluation of some oral postradiotherapy sequelae in patients treated for head and neck tumors.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the oral sequelae of radiotherapy in patients treated between 1999 and 2003 for head and neck tumors. One-hundred patients (24 women, 76 men) ranging in age from 30 to 83 years (mean 59.2 years) were examined.

Reproducibility of pixel values for two photostimulable phosphor plates in consecutive standardized scannings.

The objective of the present study was to determine the reproducibility of the pixel values obtained with the Digora system (Soredex, Finland). Exposures were standardized, with variation in exposure and scanning time of two photostimulable phosphor plates containing a stepwedge image. The smallest variation in pixel values ranged from 50 to 75%, with the widest variations being observed in less dense steps.
