Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is physiopathologically marked by an accumulation of beta-amyloid peptide (Aβ), hyperphosphorylation of tau protein, inflammation, and oxidative stress in the brain tissue. While new drugs for AD have been approved, novel treatments are still needed. Eplingiella fruticosa (EF) has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which may be beneficial against AD.

The present study investigates the effect of repeated balance exercises on the central vestibular compensation mechanism in a reserpine-induced progressive model of parkinsonism in aged rats. Male Wistar rats were assigned to three cohort experiments: Exp 1: repeated balance exercises (narrow beam test) - performed every 48 h during 20 days; Exp 2: balance exercises performed on the 0 and 8 days; Exp 3: balance exercises performed only on the 0 and 20 days.

Fibromyalgia (FM) is characterized by chronic widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue and muscle atrophy. Although its etiology is not known, studies have shown that FM patients exhibit altered function of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS), which regulates nociception and muscle plasticity. Nevertheless, the precise SNS-mediated mechanisms governing hyperalgesia and skeletal muscle atrophy in FM remain unclear.

Preclinical studies using monoterpenes have shown pharmacological potential to treat painful conditions, but the reports of the effects of myrtenol on orofacial pain and inflammation are scarce. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of myrtenol in experimental models of orofacial pain and inflammation.

Therapeutic approaches for controlling epileptic seizures are associated with pharmacoresistance and side effects burden. Previous studies reported that different natural products may have neuroprotector effects.

Current pharmacological approaches to treat Parkinson's disease have low long-term efficacy and important adverse side effects. The development of new pharmacological therapies has focused on novel plant-derived phytochemicals. The alcoholic monoterpene myrtenol has been isolated from several plant species, and has anxiolytic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant actions.

Twenty-eight middle-aged (8-9 months) male Wistar rats received 4 or 10 subcutaneous vehicle (control, CTL) or reserpine (RES) injections (0.1 mg/kg).

However, neurogenic rates and the number of neurogenic foci vary greatly, and are higher in ancestral taxa. Our study aimed to evaluate the distribution of doublecortin (DCX) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in telencephalic areas of the adult tropical lizard Tropidurus hispidus.

Studies have confirmed the effectiveness of comparative models and evidence has contributed to clarifying adult brain plasticity phenomenon when exposed to different stimuli. The expression of c-Fos has been widely used to identify brain areas involved in different behavioral stimuli.

This study characterized the effect of geraniol on behavior and brainwave patterns in rats. Male rats were submitted to administration of geraniol (25, 50 and 100 mg/kg).

The work is implemented using NovaGenesis architecture and a proof-of-concept is evaluated in a real scenario, demonstrating our approach to automate radio frequency channel optimization in Wi-Fi and IEEE 802.15.

Since age-related disruption of circadian synchronization is linked to several pathological conditions, we characterized alterations of neurochemical constituents and retinal projections to the major pacemaker of CTS, the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), in adult and aged marmosets. We used intraocular injections of neural tracer Cholera toxin b (CTb) to report age-related reductions in CTb, neuropeptide Y and serotonin immunoreactivities.

Studies that examine the interaction between silver nanoparticles and proteins have been highlighted in the literature in order to understand the stability of the nanoparticle system, the effects observed in biological systems, and the appearance of new chemical pharmaceutical products. The objective of this study was to analyze the behavior of silver nanoparticles stabilized with collagen (AgNPcol) and to check the skin permeation capacity and action in paw edema induced by carrageenan.

The lizard cortex has remarkable similarities with the mammalian hippocampus. Both regions process memories, have similar cytoarchitectural properties, and are important neurogenic foci in adults. Lizards show striking levels of widespread neurogenesis in adulthood and can regenerate entire cortical areas after injury.

Aged animals show internal time disruption possibly caused by morphological and neurochemical changes in SCN components. Some studies reported changes of neuronal cells and neuroglia in the SCN of rats and nonhuman primates during aging.

Lizards were divided in two groups: warm-acclimated lizards (WALs), maintained at the temperature and photoperiod conditions of their natural habitat (mean temperature 26°C; 12:12 light:dark) and the cold-acclimated lizards (CALs), maintained at the same cycle of illumination and a mean temperature of 16°C. Animals were injected with the proliferative marker 5-bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) and euthanized fifteen or thirty days later for the immunostaining.

Little is known about the neurobiology of Tropiduridae lizards. We have used neurohistological techniques to study the structural organization of the telencephalon of the neotropical lizard Tropidurus hispidus, paying special attention to the cerebral cortex.

High frequency electrical stimulation induces an increase in such expression in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord. However, evidence demonstrating the activation of this gene in the spinal cord and its relationship with LTP is still scarce.

Examples are the polysaccharides extracted from natural gums, which have found applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries as stabilizers or thickening agent. In a previous paper, however, it was shown that a Brazilian natural gum, chicha (Sterculia striata), is suitable for application as building block for nanostructured film fabrication in conjunction with phthalocyanines.
