Cognitive assessment of Brazilian patients with multiple sclerosis: weighing the impact of disability and depressive symptoms.

Unlabelled: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common demyelinating disease of the central nervous system. Cognition is not routinely assessed in patients with MS though they frequently have cognitive complaints or dysfunction.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the cognitive status of patients with MS with age, sex, and schooling matched controls and to evaluate the potential influence of clinical parameters on cognition.

Psychiatric disorders in patients with multiple sclerosis.

Unlabelled: The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of psychiatric disorders, particularly mood disorders and anxiety in an outpatient sample of patients with multiple sclerosis in Brazil, and correlate the result with sociodemographic and clinical data.

Methods: Cross-sectional study, patients evaluated consecutively, for the clinical, demographic, prevalence of psychiatric disorders was used structured interview (MINI), severity of symptoms of depression and anxiety was used Beck inventory.

Results: The prevalence of major lifelong depression in this population was 36.
