Introduction: Ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) is a common congenital anomaly leading to varying degrees of hydronephrosis (HN), ranging from no apparent effect on the renal function to atrophy. Evaluation of these children is based on Diuretic Renal Scintigraphy (DRS) and Ultrasonography (US). Recent studies have suggested that new parameters of conventional and color Doppler ultrasonography (CDUS) may be useful in discriminating which kidneys are obstructed.

We evaluated the effects of topical testosterone and estrogen in the hypospadic penis regarding biometric measures, side effects, and serum hormonal levels. To our knowledge, this is the first study using estradiol prior to hypospadias surgery.

An association between sleep respiratory disorders and enuresis has already been demonstrated. According to united airways disease abnormalities of the upper and lower airways may coexist.

Materials And Methods: A total of 87 children 6 to 15 years old with monosymptomatic enuresis were assessed individually.
Ochoa syndrome is rare and its major clinical problems frequently unrecognized. We describe facial characteristics of six patients to help health professional recognize the inverted smile that these patients present and refer them to proper treatment. Patients' medical records were reviewed and patients' urological status clinically reassessed.

Objective: To establish the effectiveness of appendiceal stump closure by metal endoclip for complicated appendicitis.
Method: From January 2009 to January 2011 were evaluated 131 consecutive patients who underwent a laparoscopic appendectomy for complicated acute appendicitis.
Objective: To determine the association of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) with maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), flexibility, physical activity level, and anthropometric variables.
Methods: A case-control study has been conducted in which LUTS was the outcome and VO2max, flexibility, physical activity level, and anthropometric variables the exposure variables. We evaluated 100 men aged between 50 and 59 years, assigning 49 to the case group and 51 to the control group.
Surgical correction of hypospadias is proposed to improve the aesthetic and functional quality of the penis. Hormone therapy preceding surgical correction is indicated to obtain better surgical conditions. However, there is divergence in the literature regarding the hormone therapy of choice, time of its use before surgery, appropriate dose, and route of application.

A cross-sectional study was conducted in which 118 volunteers (95 physicians and 23 nurses) answered a questionnaire with 21 questions about prevention of NTD. The data were analyzed according to the reported knowledge, the recommendations made by the Brazilian Ministry of Health (MOH) and the scientific evidence (SE) available in the literature on the topic.

Materials And Methods: The 10-item Dysfunctional Voiding Symptom Score (DVSS) was translated into Brazilian Portuguese according to a standard methodology: translation, synthesis, back-translation, Expert Committee, and pre-testing. After the translation process the final version was pre-tested and patient responses were analyzed to identify necessary modifications.
Spinal neural tube defects are congenital malformations of the spine and spinal cord (eg, myelomeningocele) and are frequently seen in pediatric urology practice. These neurologic problems have many consequences in a child's life and affect different parts of the body, such as the brain, spinal cord, limbs, bladder, and bowels. Because of the complexity and neurologic aspects of spinal dysraphism, many related terms and aspects of the disease are unfamiliar to the urologist.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the radiological exams of 20 men (median age 41 years; range: 28-65) with urogenital tuberculosis diagnosis. The patients were classified in the following groups: (1) bilateral renal tuberculosis with predominantly parenchymatous involvement; (2) unilateral renal tuberculosis; (3) unilateral renal tuberculosis with bladder tuberculosis and (4) bilateral renal tuberculosis with bladder tuberculosis.
Objective: To determine the publication rate of orally-presented abstracts from the 2003 Urological Brazilian Meeting, as well as the factors determining this publication rate.
Materials And Methods: The publication rate of the 313 orally-presented abstracts at the 2003 Urological Brazilian Meeting was evaluated by scanning the Lilacs, Scielo and Medline databases. The time between presentation and publication, the state and country of the abstract, the research methodology (cross-sectional, case-control, retrospective case series, prospective case series or clinical trial), whether drugs were utilized and the topic of the study were all characterized.
Purpose: We systematically reviewed the results of varicocelectomy by Palomo procedure in children and adolescents.
Materials And Methods: We performed a search of the English literature through the MEDLINE((R)) database and the Cochrane Central Search library. The key words used were "varicocele and children" and "varicocele and adolescents.
Purpose: The successful treatment of fecal incontinence can dramatically improve the quality of life of affected children. The introduction of the Malone antegrade continence enema provides the opportunity to manage previously resistant cases. However, using the to create this catheterizable channel is not always possible, and the duration of these antegrade enemas is a source of concern for the patients.
