Prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 Infection in a Sample of Health Workers in Two Health Departments of the Valencian Community in Spain.

Health care personnel constitutes the most vulnerable group of professionals, as they are employed in a work context with higher exposure to SARS-CoV-2 infection. This study aims to estimate the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection in health personnel ( = 2858) of two health departments in the Valencian community between March 2020 and April 2021, as well as the sociodemographic and work variables predicting higher infection prevalence in this group. A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed on health workers from the health departments of Torrevieja and Elche-Crevillente of the Valencian Community (Spain).

[Immunological Status against Hepatitis B among Healthcare Workers in Two Public Health Departments of the Valencian Community (Spain)].

Objective: To estimate the prevalence of immunity against Hepatitis B virus among all healthcare workers linked to the Departments of Public Health in Torrevieja and Elx-Crevillent,two municipalities in the Valencian Community, Spain.

Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study of healthcare workers in two different public health departments. Once the sample was obtained, the anti-hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBsAb) levels were abstracted based on serological test results recorded in the workers' medical records.

Edward Jenner's discovery of the smallpox vaccine spread rapidly across Europe. In Spain, vaccinations first took place in December 1800 and the practice flourished upon the private initiative of doctors, surgeons, state officials and members of the nobility in different parts of the country. Ignacio María Ruiz de Luzuriaga, secretary of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Madrid, is considered in medical historiography as a key figure of the introduction of the smallpox vaccine in Spain.

[Influenza vaccination coverage (2011-2014) in healthcare workers from two health departments of the Valencian Community and hospital services more vulnerable to the flu.].

Objective: Health care workers can transmit influenza to patients in health centers, therefore its vaccination is considered a preventive measure first order. The objective of this study was to know the coverage of vaccination against seasonal influenza in health professionals in two health departments of the Valencian Community (Torrevieja and Elx- Crevillent), in the seasons 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14.

Methods: TA cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out to determine the coverage of influenza vaccination through the Nominal Vaccine Registry (NVR) of the Conselleria de Sanitat de la Generalitat Valenciana.

[The journey of the vaccine against smallpox: one expedition, two oceans, three continents, and thousands of children].

Spain encouraged, during the Bourbon dynasty, the formation of scientific expeditions, among which was the Royal Philanthropic Vaccine Expedition, an example of biopolitics applied by the state in order to protect health. The expedition went all over the world, using children as a reservoir to transport the vaccine fluid. Francisco Xavier Balmis established a human chain that arm-to-arm materialized the success of the mission.

[Characteristics of the Videos in Spanish Posted on Youtube about Human Papillomavirus Vaccines].

Background: Internet is a resource to search for health-related information. The aim of this work was to know the content of the videos in Spanish language of YouTube related to the vaccine against the human papilloma virus (HPV).

Methods: An observational study was conducted from a search on YouTube on 26th July 2013 by using keywords such as: "human papilloma virus vaccine", "HPV vaccine", "Gardasil vaccine", "Cervarix vaccine".

Acceptability of pandemic A(H1N1) influenza vaccination by Essential Community Workers in 2010 Alicante (Spain), perceived seriousness and sources of information.

Objective: Describe acceptability of pandemic A(H1N1) influenza vaccination by Essential Community Workers (ECWs) from Alicante province (Spain) in January 2010. Evaluate the correlation with attitudes, beliefs, professional advice and information broadcasted by media.

Method: In this cross-sectional study, face-to-face interviews were conducted with 742 ECWs to assess their attitudes towards vaccination against the pandemic influenza strain.

The process of introducing the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine aimed at teenage girls has not been entirely without controversy in Spain. This vaccine was originally hyped as a preventive measure in the fight against cervical cancer but the resulting euphoria was tempered by a message calling for evidence. During administration of the second dose of the vaccine in February 2009, an unexpected turn of events attracted vast media coverage when two teenagers experienced adverse effects after immunization in Valencia (Spain).

[The five wills of Francisco Xavier Balmis].

The recent discovery of the testamentary records of Francisco Xavier de Balmis (1753-1819), director of the Royal Philanthropic Expedition of the Vaccine, constitutes a new source material with which to study his biographical profile.Balmis wrote a total of five wills covering the period from 1803-1818 and coinciding with crucial moments in his life.The analysis of these documents has led to interesting observations that confirm Balmis’s personal insecurity before facing the Expedition, his vulnerability when he was stripped of his possessions for joining the royalist cause against Napoleon, the reassurance he felt when his honors and property were restored, or his fortitude in facing the final moments of his life.
