Purpose: Lower urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (LUTS/BPH) is a growing condition in males associated with a high clinical, economic and humanistic burden. Several surgical techniques are available for the treatment of LUTS/BPH; thus, the aim of this study was to describe and explore the variability in the use of surgical procedures among Spanish hospitals.

Methods: The REVALURO was a retrospective, observational study conducted by collecting data from the clinical records of patients with LUTS/BPH aged ≥ 35 years, from 5 national reference hospitals, who were surgically treated between 2018 and 2022.

Total concentrations of Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, V, Zn, and As together with Sr and Pb isotopic compositions of seabed sediments from the worldwide famous tourist destination of Acapulco Bay, Guerrero (southern Mexico) were determined to reveal the origin of detritus and toxic elements (TEs), their potential natural and anthropogenic sources, elemental distribution and their ecological risk. Sediments derive entirely from the nearby Acapulco Granite and their concentrations of TEs are variable and rather low, although, several are above the Local Geochemical Baseline in some sites of the bay. The enrichment factor (EF) and Pb isotopes indicate that TEs derive from the Acapulco Granite with contributions of an anthropogenic source represented, very likely, by ship-bottom paints.

In this study, we isolated from the aerial parts of Kunth (i) a new neoclerodane, denominated "bacchofertone"; (ii) four known terpenes: schensianol A, bacchofertin, kingidiol and oleanolic acid; and (iii) two flavonoids: cirsimaritin and hispidulin. In the soft treatment of cancer tumours, consequent downregulation of the malignant tissue angiogenesis constitutes an efficient way to stifle tumour development and metastasis spreading. As angiogenesis requires integrin-promoting endothelial cell adhesion, migration, and vessel tube formation, integrins represent potential targets of new therapeutic anti-angiogenic agents. We recently purified an heterodimeric phospholipase A named Sm-PLGV from the venom glands of scorpion Scorpio maurus containing a Long chain, a penta-peptide insertion, which is cut out during the maturation, followed by a short chain. Three recombinant forms of Sm-PLGV were produced in Escherichia coli: rPLA(+5) containing the full-length sequence including the penta-peptide insert, rPLA(-5) a fused continuous chain of the Long and the short chains without the penta-peptide and the Long chain alone without the short one. In this study, we showed that Sm-PLGV, rPLA(+5) and rPLA(-5) displayed more potent anti-angiogenic properties than the recombinant Long chain and the short chain obtained by chemical synthesis.
