A literature search identified 9 previously published cases that were considered as possible cases of catatonia secondary to sudden clozapine withdrawal. Two of these 9 cases did not provide enough information to make a diagnosis of catatonia according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, 5th Edition (DSM-5). The Liverpool Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) Causality Scale was modified to assess ADRs secondary to drug withdrawal.

Data Sources: The search included databases in English (PubMed, PsycINFO, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases and the Cochrane Controlled Trials Register) and in Chinese (China Journal Net [CJN], WanFang, and China Biology Medicine [CBM]) and references from retrieved articles. The databases were searched using dates inclusive from their onset until January 1, 2016, for terms reflecting (a) schizophrenia, (b) clozapine, and (c) adjunctive drugs.

There is little current interest in research into patients' attitudes toward medications. In the 1960s, psychiatric researchers including Uhlenhuth, Rickels and Covi focused on this area, but this research topic needs to be revived in the 21st century. The Health Belief Model may hold potential for doing this.

Methods/procedures: First, a model of medical science situated within the history of medicine is described including (1) a limitation of the mathematical model of science, (2) the distinction between mechanistic science and mathematical science, (3) how this distinction is applied to medicine, and (4) how this distinction is applied to explain pharmacology to psychiatrists. Second, the neglected art of psychopharmacology is addressed by explaining (1) where the art of psychopharmacotherapy was hiding in the first author's psychopharmacology research, (2) how the Health Belief Model was applied to the art of medicine, (3) how the second author became interested in the Health Belief Model, and (4) his studies introducing the Health Belief Model in psychopharmacology.
Myocarditis occurs more frequently during clozapine (CLZ) administration than during treatment with other antipsychotic drugs (APs). In this observational study, we transversally screened outpatients for myocarditis by comparing a CLZ group of 132 subjects, with a non-CLZ group taking other APs (n = 371) only, and in 21 CLZ-treated patients and 18 subjects treated with other APs who had been followed for more than one year. The protocol included a) assessment of symptoms such as dyspnea, tachycardia, chest discomfort, fever, cough, and edema, b) blood pressure and heart auscultation; c) a standard electrocardiogram after a 5-minute rest, d) white cell count, and qualitative determination of troponin I, creatine-kinase-MB and myoglobin, and e) a cardiologist evaluation of subjects with suspected myocarditis.

Arabidopsis plants exposed to a pulse of exogenous NO gas were used for untargeted global metabolomic analyses thus allowing the identification of metabolic processes affected by NO. At early time points after treatment, NO scavenged superoxide anion and induced the nitration and the S-nitrosylation of proteins.

A systematic computer search identified 55 RCTs including 4457 patients who were randomized to aripiprazole (14.0 ± 7.

These two sudden deaths were probable adverse drug reactions (ADRs) following intramuscular (IM) antipsychotics. The autopsies described lack of heart pathology and were highly compatible with the possibility of TdP in the absence of risk factors other than the accumulation of antipsychotics with a high serum peak after the last injection, leading to death within hours.

Here, we show that FYVE1 (previously termed FREE1), a recently described component of the endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) machinery, interacted with RSL1-receptor complexes and recruited PYL4 to endosomal compartments. Although the ESCRT pathway has been assumed to be reserved for integral membrane proteins, we show the involvement of this pathway in the degradation of ABA receptors, which can be associated with membranes but are not integral membrane proteins.

Methods: Two evaluators independently selected studies, extracted data, and conducted quality assessment and data synthesis. Standardized and weighted mean differences (SMD/WMD), risk ratio (RR) ±95% confidence intervals (CIs), number needed to treat (NNT), and number needed to harm (NNH) were calculated.
Introduction: In 1998, an unexplained drug-drug interaction between valproic acid (VPA) and ibuprofen was reported. VPA has been considered a moderate inhibitor of several metabolic enzymes, but recently its inductive properties have been described, including the possibility of auto-induction. Ibuprofen can displace VPA from the plasmatic protein, increasing its serum free concentration, and subsequently its pharmacological actions, including auto-induction.

Antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) are frequently co-prescribed with new antidepressants (ADs) or new antipsychotics (APs). A PubMed search with no time limit was used to update the review of the clinically significant pharmacokinetic (PK) drug interactions DIs (DIs) between AEDs with new ADs and APs. Our best interpretation of what to expect regarding dosing changes in the average patient after combining AEDs with new ADs or new APs is summarized on updated tables that integrate the information on in vitro metabolism studies, therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) studies, case report/series and prospective studies.

Introduction: Second-generation antipsychotics (SGAs) are frequently co-prescribed with drug metabolic inducers and inhibitors. SGA pharmacokinetic drug-drug interactions (DDIs) with inducers and inhibitors have not received enough attention in the literature but can be studied in by using therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM).
Areas Covered: The limited information available on oral SGA pharmacokinetic DDIs is reviewed.
This systematic review examines adjunctive metformin therapy for the treatment of antipsychotic-induced hyperprolactinemia. A computerized search of databases in Chinese and the international databases in English provided three trials with a total of 325 patients including one randomized clinical trial (RCT) and two observational studies (single-group, before-after design). A meta-analysis could not be conducted.

Methods: This single-center, open-label study evaluated the pharmacokinetics and safety of oral milnacipran administered as a randomized, three-way crossover, single-dose (25, 50 and 100 mg) and in multiple doses for 8 days (up to 100 mg/day administered as 50 mg twice daily) in Han Chinese healthy volunteers. Both the single- and multiple-dose studies included 12 different adults (six males and six females), respectively.
