The introduction of ChatGPT3 in 2023 disrupted the field of artificial intelligence (AI). ChatGPT uses large language models (LLMs) but has no access to copyrighted material including scientific articles and books. This review is limited by the lack of access to: (1) prior peer-reviewed articles and (2) proprietary information owned by the companies.

Maintenance treatment of catatonia with benzodiazepines: A case series and literature review.

Objective: Benzodiazepines, particularly lorazepam, are good options for acute catatonia treatment. Published catatonia literature on benzodiazepine maintenance treatment and benzodiazepine tolerance is limited.

Methods: This is a chart review covering 30 years of clinical experience in the state of Kentucky, (United States of America), where there was no easy access to electroconvulsive therapy.

Pharmacovigilance in Action: Utilizing VigiBase Data to Improve Clozapine Safety.

Purpose: Clozapine is an antipsychotic which was approved in 1989 for treatment-resistant schizophrenia in the United States (US). There were few randomized trials before its approval and potentially lethal clozapine adverse drug reactions (ADRs), such as agranulocytosis and myocarditis were identified by pharmacovigilance. VigiBase, the WHO global database, is a cornerstone of international pharmacovigilance efforts for ADR identification during post-marketing surveillance.

The Power of Puppetry as an Arts-Based Tool for Health and Disability Communication Research.

In this article, we argue that using puppetry as a tool for arts-based research can enhance existing health and disability communication scholarship. We position interdisciplinary puppetry research alongside concepts and theories of interest to communication scholars, including entertainment education, embodiment and performance, communicated narrative sense-making, and dialogue. Then, we share an illustrative case study from our research with the nonprofit organization, MicheLee Puppets.

Clozapine for persons with neurodevelopmental disorders: a systematic review and expert recommendations for clinical practice.

Introduction: We aimed to synthesize the information on the risks and benefits of clozapine prescription for resistant challenging behavior in persons with neurodevelopmental disorders.

Methods: Articles were identified with MEDLINE, Web of Sciences, and PsycINFO search from inception through January 2024. The review was restricted to persons with intellectual disability (ID) and/or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) without comorbid psychotic or affective disorder.

Arabidopsis VQ motif-containing proteins VQ1 and VQ10 interact with plastidial 1-deoxy-D-xylulose-5-phosphate synthase.

VQ1 and VQ10 are largely unstructured homologous proteins with a significant potential for protein-protein interactions. Yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) analysis confirmed that both proteins interact not only with themselves and each other but also with other VQ and WRKY proteins. Screening an Arabidopsis Y2H library with VQ1 as bait identified 287 interacting proteins.

How can we better address the pharmacokinetics of antipsychotics in children and adolescents?

Introduction: Despite a steady increase of antipsychotic prescriptions in children and adolescents, knowledge about pharmacokinetics and dosing of antipsychotics in children and adolescents remains limited.

Areas Covered: We discuss seven issues with major impact on the pharmacokinetics of antipsychotics in youth: estrogens, ii) obesity, iii) ethnicity, iv) smoking, v) inflammation, vi) drug-drug interactions (DDIs), and vii) pharmacogenetics. Despite their major impact, these issues have not been adequately considered in the context of dosing algorithms for antipsychotics in youth.

Intravascular schwannoma as an extremely unusual cause of vein obstruction: a case report.

The blood vessel lumen is an extremely rare location for a benign peripheral nerve sheath tumor like schwannoma. Less than 10 cases have been previously reported. In this report, we present a case of a 68-year-old woman who had a soft tissue nodule at the posterior calf of her left leg during a physical examination.

Introduction: Antiseizure medication (ASM) add-on to clozapine may be efficient to target clozapine-resistant mood or psychotic symptoms or clozapine-related adverse drug reactions (ADR) such as seizures. We aimed to synthesize the information relevant for clinical practice on the risks and benefits of clozapine-ASM co-prescription.

Can Slow Personalized Titration Using C-Reactive Protein Monitoring Decrease the High Rates and Mortality of Clozapine-Associated Myocarditis Seen in Some Countries? A Call for Research.

Purpose/background: The hypothesis that slower personalized titration may prevent clozapine-associated myocarditis and decrease the disproportion incidence of 3% found in Australia was not described in a recent Australian article in this journal.

Methods: Six countries in addition to Australia have published information suggesting a similar incidence of clozapine-associated myocarditis. On September 19, 2023, PubMed searches were updated for articles from the United States, Korea, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, and Turkey.

Cell immunity to SARS-CoV-2 after natural infection and/or different vaccination regimens.

Background: The aim of the study was to evaluate the humoral and cellular immunity after SARS-CoV-2 infection and/or vaccination according to the type of vaccine, number of doses and combination of vaccines.

Methods: Volunteer subjects were sampled between September 2021 and July 2022 in Hospital Clínico San Carlos, Madrid (Spain). Participants had different immunological status against SARS-CoV-2: vaccinated and unvaccinated, with or without previous COVID-19 infection, including healthy and immunocompromised individuals.

Promoting safer and wider worldwide use of clozapine.

This issue focuses on the past, the present and the future of clozapine. Of the 43 clozapine articles, nine are historical articles dealing with the past, 29 deal with the present and five with laboratory assays which may influence its future use. These 43 articles include 219 different authors from 56 countries/regions and five continents.

Cerebrovascular complications, including cerebral edema and ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, constitute the leading cause of maternal mortality associated with preeclampsia. The underlying mechanisms of these cerebrovascular complications remain unclear. However, they are linked to placental dysfunction and blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption.

Improved cognition after rifaximin treatment is associated with changes in intra- and inter-brain network functional connectivity.

Background: Rifaximin is a non-reabsorbable antibiotic which acts at gut level, and improves cognition and inflammatory parameters in minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) patients, but not all patients show the same level of response. This study aims to assess brain activity, both within and between brain networks, following rifaximin treatment, considering the differences between response groups as well.

Methods: Twenty-two healthy controls and 53 patients with cirrhosis (22 without and 31 with MHE, diagnosed by Psychometric Hepatic Encephalopathy Score, PHES) performed psychometric, attention and coordination tests, and blood inflammatory parameters were measured.

The Andean Ibis () in South America: potential distribution, presence in protected areas and anthropic threats.

The avifauna of South America is one of the most widely studied groups of vertebrates. However, certain species, such as the Andean Ibis (), have received limited attention regarding their ecological patterns, biology, current distribution, and environmental requirements. This study analyzed observation data from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) on the Andean Ibis in four countries to identify and understand critical variables that determine the species' presence, assess the proportion of its habitat within protected areas and identify possible threats to the species.

Revealing the reporting disparity: VigiBase highlights underreporting of clozapine in other Western European countries compared to the UK.

Background: Pharmacovigilance studies indicate clozapine history is marked by adverse drug reactions (ADRs).

Objective: In a 2021 article, the United Kingdom (UK) had >90 % of European clozapine-related fatal outcomes in VigiBase, the World Health Organization's pharmacovigilance database. Two possibly opposing hypotheses could explain this disparity: 1) fewer reported fatal outcomes in other Western European countries mainly reflect underreporting to VigiBase, and 2) the higher number of UK reports reflects higher real relative mortality.
