The interaction between drugs and transport proteins, such as albumins, is a key factor in drug bioavailability. One of the techniques commonly used for the evaluation of the drug-protein complex formation is fluorescence. This work studies the interaction of human serum albumin (HSA) with four non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)-ibuprofen, flurbiprofen, naproxen, and diflunisal-by monitoring the fluorescence quenching when the drug-albumin complex is formed.

Herein, the novel application of FeS/C nanocomposite as a highly active, stable, and recyclable catalyst for heterogeneous electro-Fenton (EF) treatment of organic water pollutants is discussed. The simultaneous carbonization and sulfidation of an iron-based metal-organic framework (MOF) yielded well-dispersed pyrite FeS nanoparticles of ∼100 nm diameter linked to porous carbon. XPS analysis revealed the presence of doping N atoms.

Commercial hardwood biochars ranging in N2 specific surface area of 0.1-427 m(2) · g(-1) were added to an agricultural soil at 0, 1, or 2% levels to determine whether they would predictably reduce the pore water concentration of sulfamethazine (SMT). The soil and biochar-soil mixtures were preweathered under mild (2 d, 20 °C) or more severe (28 d, 40 °C) conditions before spiking.

Background: Although benzodiazepines are effective, long-term use is not recommended because of potential adverse effects; the risks of tolerance and dependence; and an increased risk of hip fractures, motor vehicle accidents, and memory impairment. The estimated prevalence of long-term benzodiazepine use in the general population is about 2,2 to 2,6%, is higher in women and increases steadily with age. Interventions performed by General Practitioners may help patients to discontinue long-term benzodiazepine use.
